Hoping someone can offer a bit of help / advice / guidance!

My Cali went in for it’s full service 10 days ago with VW Breeze in Poole and whilst it was in they addressed a warranty issue with the sliding door blind where it was catching on the trim on the B pillar - apparently it was a quick fix as something wasn’t attached properly. When I picked it up I tested it and sure enough it now ran smoothly, problem sorted apparently.

However we took the van away this weekend as a quick final test of everything before we go away in it for three weeks next Monday - and now the blind won’t stay down, 99 times out of 100 it immediately retracts back up half way! It never did that before so something has obviously happened whilst it was being ‘fixed’. I’ve had a quick search on the forum and it seems it’s not a one off and others have experienced this and required replacement of the blind.

I’ve just called Breeze and they’ve told me they can’t do anything for me until I come back from our three week trip because they are too busy - despite the fact that the problem has been created whilst they were fixing another issue. I’ve explained that we’re going to be sleeping in the van for three weeks somthat isn’t acceptable given that they’ve created the problem so the service manager is now looking to see if one of their other garages who don't do specialise in Calis can do something. He says that their master technician is set up to deal with Calis but aim nervous about a non-specialist messsing around with my vehicle, particularly as we’re about to do 3000 miles and live in it for 3 weeks!

Can anyone tell me
- what the permanent fix VW need to do is and how complex it is? Do they need to order an entire replacement blind or is it just a part of it?
- what if anything anyone has found as a temporary fix to keep the blind down? If we can find a workaround / temporary fix then I’d be happy to work wit to get it fixed properly - as long as it’s not going to cause a problem during the holiday.

Hope someone can offer some advice or a solution,

Jez

Read a post that says the blind is only held in place by friction so I’ve just tried pushing a thick bit of card in on both sides and that is at least temporarily holding it - I’ll leave it in place and see if it holds it until removed.
I found another post that suggested pinching the aluminium track with some needle nosed pliers to increase the friction - but I’m loathe to do anything that could invalidate the warranty or prevent me getting it properly repaired.
I found this post that talked about the black piece not being in the handle - but I’ve checked and all looks fine visually and exactly the same as all the other blinds in the vehicle so I don’t believe that is the issue:

Sadly the "catching on the trim", a very common problem on the Cali, is often the cure to stopping the blind from retracting part-way up :(

Mine, on my T5, was erratic. Sometimes it would stay down, other times it did not, so a wound ip bit of paper came in handy on the days it did not, just a tiny bit more friction between trim and blind. It only needs a little.

I suspect the complete answer is a new blind.

If it's returning then the problem should be relatively simple to fix, the track may just need pinching slightly at the bottom.

Link above is the one you want.

If it wasn't returning you would have more issue, as the blinds may have to be replaced.

Thanks very much for your replies both, I appreciate you taking the time to help!

I’ve just had a call from the Breeze service manager who has advised that the local garage is too busy but that he has spoken to his Master service technician who says he thinks he knows what he’d need to do to fix it but will need the van for at least a few hours. They are going to make a slot for me this Thursday so I’ll be taking it down for them to look at. It’s leaving it a bit close to going away for my comfort and means I’ll need to take more time off work, but hopefully it’ll at least get me a temporary fix for Holiday!

Thanks again,

Jez

Why not stick some velco(the felt side) around the trim at the bottom to grip the plastic part?

Or just a layer or two of sellotape or such to reduce the channel gap?

It might sort itself out, in hot weather they stick, and they may have applied a little to much silicone grease use a dry cloth on the wires.

I had problems with my sliding door blind didn’t want to stay down. Investigated it and found a wire in the track in each side. There is a small plastic part connecting the wire to each end of the lower part of the blind. This had come undone in one side and was found in the top of the track, above the blind. By pulling the blind down only in one side (the effected side) I was able to get it out of the track, pull down the plastic part connected to the wire, and reattaching it to the end of the blind.
Now works fine, it stays down no problem :)

OK thanks, it looks all good to me somI think mine is a different issue as suggested by Granny Jen and MattBW. I’ll report back tomorrow once VW have fixed it again...

Could mods put this in the correct section please.
Why don't members put posts in the corrct section????

Obviously I put it in what I thought was the correct section (based on there being 110 search results for the word blind in this section)! You’ve not said what is the correct section? It’s about trim on a T6 isn’t it? It’s not specific to Beach or Ocean as both have the blinds? Not what I’d call a helpful or friendly comment but thanks for your input buddy.

Anyway - I went to VW yesterday and had the blind fixed. It turned out that the guy who fixed the problem with the blind hitting the trim had noticed a squeak so had sprayed silicone spray on the blind to solve it. This then soaked into the felt pad on the end of the blind so meant there was no friction to hold it down. He was extremely apologetic and has replaced the felt pads on the end with new ones and it now works perfectly. It was an honest mistake by someone trying to be helpful and do the right thing and had unintended consequences. I’m very grateful to Breeze for squeezing me in so quickly, the Engineer was a really nice guy and he did all he could to solve other issues I had with rattles and make the trip worth my while. Blind now working perfectly and we’re ready to go on holidays!

Thanks again to all the helpful members of the forum, it really is a great community in general and I’m very grateful for all the help and support it provides, I hope Imcan pay it back in the future.

You really are an annoying, pedantic arse aren't you?
Just leave people alone to post what they want, if it's in the wrong section it will get moved no problem.
There are so many sections on the forum these days it can be difficult to know where to post, I still struggle and I've been on here since the beginning.
If you haven't got anything helpful to say then do us all a favour and keep it zipped.

None offensive post by john, then he gets abuse, wtf ???
I didn´t understand which post was mixed up anyway.
Gotta tread carefully on certain threads it seems.

I've noticed over the years John is very quick to jump on people when it's not necessary, and be quite rude with it.
It's unnecessary and could put some people off posting, particularly new members.
If you don't agree then that's fine but I wouldn't say it was unwarranted.

Glad to see you removed your comments on the other thread, takes a big man to accept he was in the wrong
I didn't.
But as long as you're happy that's the main thing.

Cheers Jez but I think you're in the minority to think that, I seem to be somewhat unpopular these days but never mind

Why don't members put posts in the corrct section????

Because it's extremely difficult to find the correct section to post in - there are too many minor divisions. On occasion I've refrained from posting a question because I was afraid of someone jumping at me for doing it wrong.
It's very annoying when people have paid to be part of this group and have what sounds like an elderly schoolmaster tutting because they have failed to post in the correct place.
