Considering how many councils are banning campervans on seafronts, car parks and even public roads, I wonder how many people paid the luxury CAR tax for 5 years.
If there are enough of us who did, I wonder if a petition to the DVLA and roads minister would make the situation on classification more clear. I feel aggrieved to have paid the same as an expensive car but be unable to park where they can.
Who was/how many affected by this??

If I was the minister, I would tackle the issue head on and make sure that, when applied to a campervan, the luxury car tax is labelled “luxury campervan tax”. Problem solved.

(Sorry, I’ll leave now)

Well, a +1 from Berkshire.

While I don't feel there is a correlation between the purpose of a "luxury" car tax (which I paid on our Tiguan and am still paying) vs car park usage and councils I can say I did not have to pay it on our FY22 Ocean.

Nor me on my MY23. ;)

I think you make a valid point, particularly as the present government has a huge tax hole to fill.
Maybe best not to point out a potential quick win.

If you are paying the luxury car tax now on a Cali, after the six years are up you will be paying about half what rest of us are paying, I’m sure you won’t be asking to be pay the same as us then.

Just looking forward to 6th year of vehicle tax on my 2019 Ocean after 5 years of luxury vehicle tax. We intend to keep our "MPV" registered Cali indefinitely so hoping for substantially reduced payments in future

I think you may be disappointed, it’s the 7th year that’s lower.

How about if you pay it and drive around in electric mode? The saving offered is £10, which oddly hasn't risen in line with inflation.

Yep, year 7 before it drops down.

First year + 5years, so on the 7th year it's standard rate

Hi "andyinluton", sorry I didn't make it clear, our Cali Ocean is a 2019 "MPV registered". We paid luxury vehicle tax 2019 (1st year of reg) so, 2019, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 so our next VED is due March 2025, hence looking forward to our next VED being substantial cheaper

That’s good, a lot of people have been caught out thinking the first registration is one of the five expensive years.
