Anyone taken their dog to Ile d’oleron?

It will be us two adults, two children and the dog? Advisable or not?!

Haven't been to Oleron (yet) but went to Re and word of caution would be the heat. We didn't take our Lab and were super grateful as it was boiling hot all week. Also meant we could zoom around on bikes and not worry about the dog. But if yours is used to heat and Cali trips go for it

Yes, very fit/active then 11 year old Jack Russell in late July(low 30’s Degs most days) We did a lot of cycling with dog in Trailer so she had breeze/wasnt over exerted. Was still bit too hot and planning trips to avoid worst heat became restrictive.
Not sure she enjoyed it too much but she did endure it ok. It did stay curiously hot throughout the night.
We’d just travelled up from Coastal Spain which was hotter during day/cooler at night and she faired better there.
Since then we’ve focussed on Scandinavia during summer - much more reasonable/manageable with a dog.

Minnie the Weimaraner is short haired so I was hoping that might work in her favour but if a Jack Russel struggled then she might.

We have a trailer for her too. We’ll be in the pine forests - are there places in the forests and near the beaches to let a dog off?

Jessie, our Jack Russell, is wire-haired so suffered more.
Yes, there were many places you could let a dog run free. The beach sand was obviously quite hot for a dog.

Oh, I got the impression that dogs wouldn't be allowed on most of the beaches- are there parts of the beach they're allowed on? Or are they allowed on the 'dunes' behind?

We took her on to one but it was too hot - didn’t get as far as the rules so don’t know whether we should/not have because in the end we didn’t.
