Hi everybody,
Thought I would just share something odd that occurred when I was looking at renewing the insurance for my Cali. I was going through the tedious business of filling in the online forms and trying to make sure that I was comparing like with like, when I came to the bit where you have to enter years of no claims bonus. I have been with Comfort for the past 3 years and previously with Safeguard for 3 years. I noticed that Comfort were only giving me 3 years NCB and when I phoned them I was informed that they don’t count previous NCB from other insurers and so a new policy starts at zero. Naively I hadn’t realised this so I thought I will switch back to Safeguard as they know that I didn’t have any claims with them in the 3 years I was with them but alas they said that I would need proof of NCB from Comfort and that would only be 3 years. The difference in price between 3 years NCB and 7 years NCB is £80!
So the moral of this long winded story is, by all means switch to Comfort if the price is really good but it will cost you your hard earned no claims bonus which will be expensive if you want to change again in the future. I hate insurance companies! Alan

Who do Comfort insure? I 've 9 years plus no claims and had no claim Cali on a T5 California from new in 2009. They won't insure me on that or the new T6.1 but bug me nevertheless. Reason? Both Calis are parked on a public road. Maybe they should ask that question first and kick me out not leave it to at the end ? They even phone me when they can't complete an online quote?.LSafeguard are brilliant BTW. I've been with them 16 years. I go for other quotes but they always seem to beat THEM and they are good on service. Remarkable esp given you get comprehensive breakdown included!! Shame they're not so competive on other insurance.

Write to Watchdog and let them put pressure on insurance companies. Why should we be any different to other road users!

I'm with Comfort. Only bought my van this year but they accepted my 9+ yrs no claims off my last car. They were literally half the price of the next nearest quote.

As I'm renewing just got a quote from Safeguard, 285% of my Comfort renewal premium.

I am guessing that most Cali, indeed most car, owners obtain multiple quotes every year, and that a reasonable proportion of these quotes involve some form of manual follow up.
If only the industry could get its act together by being more transparent about how it calculates risks etc, then much of the annual renewal fiasco could be avoided, the brokers and insurers could make savings and we, the source of their income, might share in those savings.
If only…
