Hi everyone, first post ever after a little while of lurking in the shadows!

We've got a 2018 Ocean (TSI BMT) which we're struggling to insure as the usual companies don't seem to know a petrol version exists.

They either struggle with the concept of the california to begin with (which isn't filling us with confidence if it ever comes to claiming) or then can't find the petrol version on their system. This means they then can't offer us a quote. Some have bounced it back to their underwriters, but they're not sure either.

Was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem?

Cheers

Have you tried the usual specialist ones Comfort, safeguard C&MC etc

Hi, yeah we have - sorry should have said:

Comfort: my wife's dad is still the registered owner so Comfort say they can't insure us
Caravan Club: £700+ online quote, but would need to check they are happy with FIL being registered owner
LV: gave us a quote (£500), but once they sent the quote through still said TDI.
Admiral: underwriter still unsure, awaiting response.
Safeguard: closed today, going to ring tomorrow. Offer may not be that useful for us, as we won't need it for 12 months (timesharing with FIL)

Also there seems to be a bit of confusion on whether it is a T6 or T30, any ideas on how to be sure?

Thanks so much.

I've a T6 petrol. Safeguard was fine; no issues at all.

T6 is the current model.

T28, 30, 32 is the load the van can take if it's the Transporter.

On re-reading this I am wondering why your Father in Law (as the owner) doesn't insure you and you just reimburse him. Seeing as you aren't the registered owner of the vehicle I am not surprised no one will insure you. The petrol/California status would be a secondary issue?
