So we went tyre kicking yesterday at a Cali main stealer.

During the chat with sales guy he said VW are greatly reducing the number of Cali dealers in the UK.

I think he said there would only be 20 or so?

Makes sense. In my limited experience, in the more commercial focussed dealerships, the Cali seems a complete afterthought.

Whereas Breeze, it’s a core product.

20 dotted around the country makes sense. People already travel far & wide to get to Breeze as it is. UK wide catchment area..

Sounds good. Bette to have specialist centres, than some half-baked sales/service.
I wonder which will serve London

In principle sounds sensible, however already have a 2 hour drive to my nearest Cali dealer, would not want to travel any further. If the number is reduced hopefully VW will ensure the technicians are all trained in the remaining dealerships and improve quality control.

Interesting. Recently completed a market survey for VW Commercial regarding Internet only ordering of new vehicles with view only showrooms to physically see vehicles.

Better to have reliable expertise for Camper side but my experience in Cumbria of 1 Van centre even for base vehicle service/remedial work is
A) Timescale for priority repairs as nearly 2 months for relatively straight forward work. May need a spare vehicle (as the Cali is my only vehicle). Little chance of a loan vehicle.
B)Travel time for investigative work. Each interaction is a day or more
C)Transport of an immobile vehicle unless under warranty. Don’t fancy the cost of vehicle transport to and from say Liverpool or Preston as likely nearest large dealers with Cali capacity.

That will put drive the deal out of business and stops you negotiating a good discount or free accessory’s. This seems to be the model that most vehicle manufacturers are looking to implement over the next few years.

I’m guessing that for routine servicing it won’t need to be a California specialist. Any VW Van Centre can do engines, brakes, etc, etc.
Just need to make sure they keep their grubby hands off your nice interior.

It is the same with Honda Goldwings, there are only 13 Goldwing specialists in the UK. If you live in Cumbria it is 120 miles to Blackpool or 130 miles to Edinburgh, Thank god I don't live in the highlands. Edinburgh is the only dealership in Scotland!
