Can someone tell me how to use this socket? I was lead to believe my 2008 T5 has an inverter so we can use 220v up to 120w off the battery, but I am a dummy when it comes to electrics. It says 12v - does that mean I do not have an inverter?

That is 12V DC, not an inverter output. If there is one fitted, it should look like a 2 pin (or possibly 3 pin) mains socket, usually located behind left seat on the B pillar.

No, that is a 12v socket.
The Inverter socket, if you have it, is fitted on the base of the B Pillar behind the the Left Hand seat by the base of the Kitchen unit and is normally a 2 pin EU socket for 230v 150w.
Which vehicle do you have. Your info shows a T5 Beach but the picture shows a kitchen unit fitted to the T5 SE full camper.

That socket is a Hella 12v socket you will need an adapter like this
one.
There is also one with 2 usb sockets available.
I think that it is only live when plugged into external power supply, i never
use mine as its behind my drivers seat and the seat is pushed right back.

Those flaps are a pain in the ... too, just makes it
harder to plug in.H442c54e872a14ab7bbd032a2b8e00d3dA.jpg_q50.jpg
