Designed & made a rack with eight rollers to make loading easier for our six metre kayak. Used in conjunction with a Rhino rack T bar fitted to the tow bar socket. Works very well, minimising risk of back strain during the loading processIMG_0876.jpeg

Would it not be safer to have the Kayak upside down?
That would produce a download rather than upload when travelling at speed.

I don’t know of any commercial kayak carrier pads that support a kayak upside down, they are either like the OP or J bars to support the kayak on edge. The hull of a kayak is stronger than the deck so if transporting upside down you can tend to crush or flatten the deck. Also opening the tailgate is harder as the boat shear is now making the stern lower.
A good practice (which I admit I don’t always do) is to have a rope from the bow down to the towing eye or other attachment point. my boat which is a m shorter than the one shown I have made an anchor point either side of the bonnet to form a bridle. A loop of webbing that is fixed via the bolts that hold the wing on, thin enough to come out of the gap between wing and bonnet. When not in use can be folded out of sight.

Like this, with the rope taken to one on the other side as well.
