Keeping cool in French heatwave

A friend of mine has bought a portable cooler from a company called Evapolar.com still waiting to hear how he's got on with it, but they get good reviews.

Couple of cheap USB fans can help.
Although, you need to cello-tape them to your face to feel any real benefit.

Project in progress but you'll be able to see the intent.

3x 120mm computer fans; covered with insect mesh, linked with joining plates and end-caps (only one end-cap fitted in photos).

Free standing fan or mount into window (T6.1), reversible so can be used to draw air in or as an extractor (eg during internal cooking).

I may get the fine tuning of fitting the fan speed controller and connection cable this weekend or early next week and will post links to the 3D print files, fans etc.
120mm Fans £23.49 for 5 (so leaving a couple spare), fan speed controller £5.99 for 2.

I really must get around to writing up some of the other projects I have been undertaking too.

I was so desparate this summer in Italy that I went and bought a standing ac unit. We where in a great place in Italy, Vallecrosia, except for one thing, mosquitoes everywhere. Even after the sun got up, somehow they managed to get through our mosquito nets. Normally I don’t notice them much but here, it must have been Ferrari mosquitoes or something.
After some research I went to the local Expert shop in Ventimigila and bought a standing ac unit for 250€. Now we can have cabin closed and not fry like sardines.
I used the cardboard of the ac unit to make a cover with a hole in it to let the warm air out and mossies out. Worked very well.

I am home in sweden now so will start my next project, installing a pc fan over the air inlet for the cabin so I can sleep downstairs in more normal temperatures without installing the nets on the windows all the time. Two nets in the sliding windows does not make enough ventilation when we are sleeping with our heads to the rear.
I will report back on my install.

We had the same last summer in France - the local bricolage had portable ACs in for 150euro - cheaper than the UK so we just bought that back with us!

Be prepared for a lot of dust / dirt. Le Mans area of France up until last weekend had not seen rain for 7-8 weeks. There’s a hell of a lot of dust as a result, especially in forest type areas and some campsites, and hard to keep clean and it out of the Cali…. Must admit though, in the 42 degC we had there last week that aircon unit would of appealed :)

Do you leave the blind open?

Do you leave the blind open?

I have not actually used the fan unit yet. The blind could close whilst it is fitted, though of course would block the air flow.

I haven't included anything to protect the fans from any rain yet, so unless/until I design a cowl I'm not expecting to leave it fitted in the window gap overnight if there is any chance of rain.

The blind could be lowered most of the way and the fan positioned horizontally on the sink cover and still draw air in for a good breeze over the bed area at night.
