Just noticed this model while sat at my local dealers.

We have the non DAB 520 which is pretty good but getting on now; maps are out if date, especially for Spain, radio reception is tragic and it's always been very slow to boot up. It also has a slightly random synching with our iPhones.

Anyone know of this new version addresses any of these issues? I do like the new split screen facility and DAB should be better!

Hello,
I have had the fitted the DNX525 recently from VW as a complementary upgrade due to my basic model not working correctly for the last two years.

I have no history of the different model to this one,but what i have noticed from the small time i have had it is;
The sound quality is excellent for music, radio and phone calls.
Gps is spot on,requires quickly and the split screen is very handy.
I have watched a couple of films on a HD ,picture quality is excellent.
Easy to use touch button even when driving, things are easy to find and get too.

I am still getting used to it but now back at work! There are things on there I have no idea how to use,it says TV yet cant seem to get that to work yet,the DAB radio I assumed would re tune when your out of signal but it does not.It does take a minute or so to load up when you start the van.

Overall in my opinion (which does not count for anything half decent usually!!) its a quality piece of equipment, its does what it says on the tin.Im not sure how much it differs from the older model.I am intending at some point getting down your way on the bikes, your more than welcome to have a play and see what you think.

Cheers Andy - very helpful.

Hmm - mine has been rather troublesome too; maybe I could request one FOC too!

I think you need a separate (and expensive) tuner for TV.

TV tuner is an extra unit that needs to be fitted to make that work.

cheers

This is a useful thread. I've been planning an upgrade of our 310 for some while and whilst in the dealer yesterday had a good long look at the new kenwood head unit. The price is better than the 510 and comparable with the Hazzydayz retrofit price, but I really like the look of the kenwood. Apparently the new ken wood has only been out about 4 months (DNX525 as opposed to the DNX521 - I think)

My dealer can fit the unit with a reverse camera for £1300 so I'm seriously giving it some thought.

Anyone know if the reverse camera option will include the reversing guidance thingy, where the lines overlaid on the reversing picture move with the steering wheel as they do on the 510 reversing camera?

Not sure about the sensors but it looks like the new one might also display on the dashboard screen?

I really like this about our car's satnav and would love it on the van. I know RNS510 has it but I just feel it's way too dated in other ways (and flipping pricey).

With the Kenwood reversing cameras you can have lines but they won't move like on the RNS510. There are two cameras available, one just looks straight back and the other has parking lines, can look left, right, up, down and more than one view at a time.

cheers

Ok Thank you and oh bugger.not quite as simple as I first thought.

I'll be passing by with my VCDS cable in the next month or so if you need a hand, but maybe someone closer has a cable. I'm based in Brighton.

Very kind offer.Thankyou. I will see how i get on over the weekend and contact if stuck.

I've got a DNX525DAB that I need to install in the very near future. Any advice/tips from your install? How did you get the coding sorted in the end?

Thanks
Mark

Very pleased with the kenwood.dab signal good.navigation been excellent so far, still need to enable live traffic updates and speed camera locations.only negative I have is if sunny it's very hard to see the screen.got coding done by a local chap who fitted parking sensors etc, only took a few minutes.money well spent.

Thanks. Is the install pretty straightforward? It looks like it's pretty much plug and play from the instructions so I'm hoping it will be easy. There's a two pin, quite large green connector that I'm not sure the function of but hoping it will become apparent when I get the old unit out.

Where did you mount the GPS anntenna? Do you happen to know what coding is needed?

Sorry my info above was wrong, there is no coding needed for this unit

We've fitted loads now with no issue. We,Re offering them for £950 fitted if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the info. That makes life simpler. I wonder what coding Jaydub had done in that case?

I did see your offer but unfortunately I had already ordered the unit by then. You're also a bit far away as well anyway. Where do you guys fit the GPS antenna? I've seen various positions suggested. The most popular seems to be under the dash tray.

Just had our Cali fitted with the kenwood DNX525 at BMVS, very happy so far, DAB seems very good, navigation works great.
