I now have the Khyam Motordome classis with figure of 8 and Kador strip and was wondering whether you need to trim down the length of them both from 3m to the length of the cali awning (which is approx 246cm). Thanks

Hi Mark,

As we are away for 10 days decided to cut mine down whilst we are camping.

I first cut the figure of eight to the same length as the awning channel which made sense as it is now better supported at the ends. To cut it cleanly I used a small razor saw and mitre box, as used for model aircraft building, but I realise that you probably wont have one of these so a hack saw would be my next choice.

I also cut the kador down but left it about 2 inches longer at each end as it makes it easier to pull on to the awning channel and lining it up with the figure of eight and awning. The kador is easy to cut with some sharp scissors but do remember to heat and melt the end to stop it from fraying.

Great thanks for the tips John. I can't wait to try out the Khyam...shame about it's colour. The dark grey and black trim will probably make it hotter in this kind of heat.

I just got my Motordome Sleeper and Kador.

Not sure if I missed something. Is the figure of 8 something extra or comes with the tent or Kador?

Sorry about that Mark Khyam kindly produced black/grey this year to colour match my Cali which is off road Grey. :thumb :D

Don't worry Jock you wont need to buy it as the figure of 8 plastic strips come with your awning.

Have a look at Kyham's website and the video of the Motordome Classic to see how it connects to a Cali. :thumb

Hi there,
When you attach the awning to a pull out Fiamma, are you not left with a gap between the awning and van that rain will leak through? Also, are the sides of the tent close enough to the van when using the Fiamma awning as an attachment point?

Thanks .

The only gap you get is down the sides vertically. The connection between the windout awning and the motordome is very well sealed, with the added bonus that you can put a good load of tension between the two awnings by using the windup mechanism to pull it all taught. I find that putting the feet down also is very helpful, as this allows the connection point to be higher than otherwise, meaning that water never congregates at the point the two awnings connect (unlike when connected to the van directly)

Regarding the sides, this gap is adjustable (by positioning the motordome close or further away from the van as desired) depending how much the gap is useful or not. In winter I keep the motordome close, and this allows you to peg out the motordome baffles close to the van (and into the wheel arches) providing a good seal.
Where as last weekend in Devon, with 34degC and lots of sunshine, then I positioned the motordome as far away from the van as the windout awning would allow. Giving us a nice sunshade as well as good air movement around and through the van.

Personally I cant fault the two awnings together. They work brilliantly in unison.

Re: Kyham Motordome Classic connecting to Cali Roll Out Awni

So, I have a Beach and didn't go for the roll out porch awning just the kador channel strip. Problem now is that the kador is not wide/high enough so sliding van door rubs along top when open and catches in the door when closing. I'm sure I've seen an extension that resolves this but can't find it is on inter web now (the curse of the should have bookmarked that one strikes again)...Does this make sense and does anyone have a cure or can point me to extension thingy?
