Hi Mark,
As we are away for 10 days decided to cut mine down whilst we are camping.
I first cut the figure of eight to the same length as the awning channel which made sense as it is now better supported at the ends. To cut it cleanly I used a small razor saw and mitre box, as used for model aircraft building, but I realise that you probably wont have one of these so a hack saw would be my next choice.
I also cut the kador down but left it about 2 inches longer at each end as it makes it easier to pull on to the awning channel and lining it up with the figure of eight and awning. The kador is easy to cut with some sharp scissors but do remember to heat and melt the end to stop it from fraying.
