Lake Garda high season

Anyone got experience of Lake Garda in the high Season?
We're thinking of booking the Bella Italia campsite on the lake, which has got good reviews. Seems expensive for a pitch with 4 people, but maybe that's because I'm comparing it against UK prices. Any experiences or recommendations in the area would be appreciated.
Cheers

At the south end of the Lake there is an ' aire ' think about 10 euro a night....easy walk to the water.

At the north end as you climb up the hill there is a car park which is free, fantastic views over the lake, I have had a few nights parked there.

We stayed at Lake Garda in September 2012 and stayed at Lazise - The campsite is right on the shores of the lake and the small town is just 5 minutes walking from the site - Lake Garda was very busy even in September but we are definitely heading back later this year.
:D

We stayed at Lake Garda in 2011, as part of our European tour. Loved it. Great weather, great people and gorgeous lake. We hired a boat for the day as well - fantastic way to see it all. We stayed at the campsite 'weekend', very busy - to be expected, nice pool, great views, great restaurant. Couldnt really fault it at all really.

Enjoy :thumb

Thanks for the replies, think we're going to have to cough up for a full on site. I'm staying there for three weeks with two young kids so pools and stuff will be essential. Will be prepared for the crowds. Big campsites getting full already......

A couple of days out if kids will tolerate:

Verona - we visited in the daytime, but friends also stayed on for opera in the amphitheatre
Venice - we did a day trip by train and took the non-express vaporetto along the Grand Canal. Gorgeous if the weather is good
Riva del Garda, at the North end of the lake, where the mountains funnel the lake. Good circular drive as I recall.

Enjoy!

Yes have a great and safe holiday oli :thumb :thumb

Hi - take a look at Camping La Pientelle http://www.piantelle.com/eng/ at Moniga del Garda at the S.W. Corner of the lake. We can heartily recommend this big site, with everything you need (good bar/restaurant :thumb ), staff all speak good English, pitches are all the way down to (and alongside) the lake, brilliant swimming pool, organised kids' entertainment, quieter pitches available if required - what more do you want :crazy? Website link above will show you all you need to know.

We were there last year at the end of May when it was about half full, but it will be busy in August, make no mistake - book well in advance if possible. The surrounding area is also v. nice with plenty to see and do.

Whatever you do, wherever you go… ENJOY it and post us a few piccies on here .

Stayed in Garda a few years ago and what a fantastic place. Going back there again this summer and staying at Bella Italia at the end of August.

Lake Garda is great, stayed on a 2 star campsite there a few years ago that had it's own private beach bit for swimming, a shop and each pitch was shaded and on different levels and was really nice.

Love to go back!

cheers

Stayed ther summer of 2012.
Camping San Francesco - we were passing by so not surprised at being charged 80 euros for one night! 2-3 nights came down to 70 euros. Exceedingly hot. No shaded pitches left. Green algae along the banks of the lake when we went made it difficult to swin in. Was a very big campsite which we dislike anyway. Staff friendly and helpful.
We so much preferred Lake orta further west. Small, very Italian and mostly Italian tourists, though level of tourists were far less than in lake Garda. We were lucky enough to spend a blissful week with our Cali a few metres from the waters edge and a five min walk to small town.
This was our experience anyway....

Spookily we are looking to do the same trip next August when I came across this post and would be grateful for your feed back on your trip and the campsite that you stayed at.

Cheers :thumb

Do you collect Tesco Clubcard points? We saved enough to get a free week with Thompson Al Fresco, it was before we had the Cali but took our T5, it was nice to stay in a static caravan as our boy was only 5mths old. Units were really good (I work for UK Holiday Parks, so know good and bad) and the site was called 'Eden'. A perfect location with some pitches having great views of the Lake which was just over the road.

Definitely going back, absolutely awesome holiday.

We've used Bella Italia 2 years running - off season.

We paid €16 /night including the hookup.

Quite a nice place and plenty to especially if you take bikes. Good pool etc for the kids.

We've visited Museo Ferrari, Enzo Museum, Gardaland (sea life but there is also a water park), Parco Natura Viva
