LV £202 quote - sanity check

So what is the problem with using LV, exactly? And what is the benefit of using Comfort or another specialised broker? Surely if I buy a campervan, and it is insured as a campervan, then I should be insured if I use it as a campervan. Now I'm not really that naive, and I know that insurance companies will try to weasel out of claims, but what exactly will LV not cover? Fire damage due to leaving the burner on by accident. for example? I can't see anything in the Comfort policy documents to explicitly say that they *will* cover things like this, but then my brain turns to mush before I get half way through reading them. This is important for me, because in the next few days I will need to insure my new Ocean, and it would make sense to insure it with my other two cars which are with LV.

Insured my car with LV for years, but use Comfort for the leisure vehicles, habitation kit unto £5k is covered as well as new for old cover for 3 years, saves buying GAP. Comfort quote £262 for under £6k mile pa.
 
GAP is the 'new for old', right? I've never used it for cars before, but I've never spent 70k on a car before. Sounds like the 5k habitation kit is important. Maybe.

You’d be surprised how much the kit can add upto, especially some of the named makes.
eg: Brandrup Carpets, mattress toppers, thermal screens, drive away awning etc:.
 
My 2016 Beach has always been cheap to insure, but renewal almost up, and just had a quote from LV for £202 (which _includes_ protected NCD + legal cover) - which is a lot cheaper than the existing CAMC policy (which was pretty good in the first place!).
Anyone any experience of LV? Any gotchas I should watch out for on their cover....?!
I usually read the whole policy just for the sake of it anyway, but this seems good. I've a feeling I may find a "excludes campers" or "doesn't include roof" clause in there somewhere!

mine is double that on a 2008. All the quotes were coming out the same

LV are very good. My wife has been with them for years. MHCC wanted over £500 to renew my 2017 Ocean which is what I paid them last year. After spending time on various comparison sites I called LV and because my wife is with them I got a multi vehicle discount and paid £260 which includes Europe, no claims protection and a bunch of other things. I would say go with LV. It also includes all the built in internals such a fridge etc.

i was quoted over £700 from comfort but LV is less than half i asked questions and came back all good after all insurance cover is only good if they pay out when a claim is need from what i see on the forum they LV are quite good
 
We have a family policy with them that includes our Cali. LV took over what was previously the Nationwide BS policies and I have assumed that it was them that were the underwriters but just badges as Nationwqide

I am with LV and have had two claims. The first was a lorry knocked my wing mirror off. Not my fault and the second was my wife hit a car which was her fault. I was very impressed how they dealt with the claims. I even renewed my insurance with them this year.
My policy is on my VW Caravelle so not a California

Im with LV, I had accident and had to claim. Very easy process but if wanted to put to a different repair centre than they wanted would have cost extra £200 on top of excess. In hindsight it would have been money well spent as their repair centre of choice has been an absolute shambles.
 
I have used the Cali policy and the Camping Club insurer (Adrian Flux Motorhome policy). Both are around £295 (2013 SE) for 8K miles pa. Points to check are:- Fully comp or 3rd party only cover in EU, no cover to drive other vehicles, UK and EU breakdown included. I need to be garaged overnight and carry a dashcam and fire extinguisher.
 
Another problem that hasn't been mentioned with non specialist insurance companies is that many of them understand 'campervan' to be a (sometimes) cheap conversion. They simply don't understand that the California is a high quality factory built vehicle.
That's been my experience anyway. I'm with Safeguard, have been for four years. When I've checked with other specialist companies at renewal time the premiums have been roughly the same.
I'm sure I could get cheaper insurance but cheaper is not necessarily better particularly with a vehicle that costs as much as a California.

I got an initial LV quote around £270 but by the time extras added (breakdown, legals...etc) I found I wasn’t saving much. So I stayed with Comfort for a gnat’s under £500 with reduced annual mileage given ‘Herman’ our T6 has moss growing on it ! CMC’s quote was very high even though we’re members.

I wouldn't want to be insured with a company that didn't appear to know what was covered and what wasn't anyway!
 
I'm going with LV they quoted £207 including car hire. Comfort quoted £400!!! despite being with them for 2 years.
I have used LV previously and didn't have a problem and I believe they are recommended by 'Which'.
While researching, I tried a campervan specialist site who quoted £875...ouch. The cover looked identical to LV with my layman's eye!
 
If LV insure the vehicle against a registration number of a Cali then I would assume that the vehicle is insured for road traffic accidents, fire and theft whilst driving. The bit that might not be covered is if you set fire to you van whilst cooking. I would argue that if the registration number relates to a Cali then it would be reasonable to assume that you would use the gas cooker with the associated risks. Also if a gust of wind damaged the pop top then it would be reasonable to assume that you might park with the pop top up.

I am with LV with my wife’s car and my car. In 2018 I had two claims one no fault and both times LV were excellent in the way they handled the claim.

I switched to LV as my wife is with them. My 2017 Ocean is around £220 Mark. I called to check if this covered all the insides such as bed and kitchen and was told it did.
MHCC wanted over £500.
LV give a good discount if you have two vehicles with them such as mine and my wife’s
