LV insurance

Just insuring my new 2014 Beach which I am picking up next week from SMG at Tonbridge. Tried to add it to my existing LV policy which I have had for many years and has two other vehicles on it - £634! They advised to start a new policy - £226! This recognises that it is a camper van and includes Class 1 business use, up to 15,000 miles a year and full cover for European travel. What is particularly amazing is that this is half the price of the premium for my 7 year old Hyundai SUV. LV are also, in my experience, very good at handling claims as I had the misfortune to have a major accident some years ago, which makes this price even better.

Anybody else with any experience of LV for the Cali? I've got complimentary VW cover for the first week so I still have time to change my mind!

When I changed my car for a Beach a year or so ago I also had an existing policy with LV and tried to move it across to the Beach. At that time they didn't/wouldn't cover the Beach at all as it was according to them a 'High Performance Vehicle'. Sounds like they have sorted that classification out and I did notice LV come up on the price comparison sites for a Beach now. Would consider them when my renewal comes up as the guy I spoke to was quite helpful and sorted out cancelling of the car policy efficiently. £226 sounds a good price to me.
I'll keep an eye out for your Beach when you get it as I'm not far away.

Just had my Admiral renewal through at £520 and had a look at LV at £420 for what appears to be the same level of cover (Class 1 business, 150 TOTAL excess, no courtesy car but LV have it as an option + £20). I'll call LV tomorrow and sound them out on the subtleties of their cover with respect to the Beach but it seems to be that these could be the new insurers to go with now it's no longer listed as a performance vehicle :crazy

Just about to pick up the California today, and LV updated my existing policy to reflect the change.

They did ask me whether the van was a 2.0ltr, which may be the way they determine if it is an older vehicle. Top up premium to see me until the end of May was £25.

As always, top service from LV - I think I was on the phone for all of three minutes

I was a long standing CSMA member with 16 years of insuring, my wife who had 9 years plus claim free had two small at fault claims in a year, LV refused to cover her at renewal.

I was shocked and rang around and found cheaper and no limit mileage cover.

Yes LV may well handle claims well but as for loyalty!!!!

I have had both my wife's car and mine (separate policies but discounts applied because of being a LV customer) for several years and it was nice to have loyalty from an insurer who repeatedly reduced the premium year on year. When we bought our Cali they swapped the policy over (about 4 months to run) from my X-Trail without an additional premiums and when renewal came they charged about £220 pounds. Couldn't get any quote remotely as close, cover was good and covered 15,000 miles and European motoring.

Adding my 25 year old son for short breaks has been ridiculously cheap, last time I thinks was about £9 for a 10 day period, must just about cover administration costs.

I have been with LV for over 20years , also csma members, for 2cars. When we changed one car for the Cali they wouldn't even quote as they said it was a performance vehicle. Very disappointed so went with caravan club.

As a newcomer this was my first time insuring a van (New Beach). I had just come off a company car insurance policy so didnt have any no claims to use (even though I've got in excess of 9 years previous to that) but even so LV gave the best quote at around £600 which I though was reasonable. Their customer services were second to none also.

I tried a number of specialist places with varying success. Some refused outright to insure it and others demanded I fit CCTV on my drive. The only specialist quote I got was almost 2K.

Only real issue I had was because I had the DSG upgrade on my Beach, they all argued that because 'the computer' didnt show a DSG Beach It must be classed as a modification. LV didnt seem to care about this and just added it as a note to the policy

Unlimited mileage on my Cali for £342 and now honour NCB certificates?

I did have an alternative quote of £285 from the Caravan Club but when I started to add or deduct "extra's" it was £20 difference and for me not worth it when sticking with "The devil you know".

I notice your insurance is the same as my renewal i have just received I also have the "advantage" extra for europe travel which puts the premium up to £400.62. Do you also have this extra?

Just another file note for LV - who for 2 years have been my best quote for Cali insurance

I've recently transferred a small workplace pension to a private pension with LV. LV are undergoing some changes that need member approval as they are still a mutual. In the pack of voting paper work I received today, I noticed members get 10% off car insurance.

I usually regard such discounts with suspicion but took 10 mins to ring up and ask. They had to run me a new quote as a member and it came out 12% cheaper than my current policy with them. Plus I get legal assistance thrown in for free.

They had to cancel my existing policy (full pro rata refund, no penalties) and open a new policy for 12 months, but I'm £52 up for 10 mins work, so a happy man.

If you have a LV pension / endowment etc, do ensure it's recognised when you ask lv for a quote, as even though my addresses match, they don't automatically make the link themselves..

I've been with LV since I got my cali and this year my premium went down not up despite maxing my no claims at 9 years. Always been impressed with them but never made a claim which is the true test.

Agree, I have used them and Frizzells, who are part of LV and always found them good but sadly their renewal quote this year was blown out of the water by Admiral, especially when Admiral gave me a 3 car deal. Although I'm still suspicious of their camper van cover assurances!
