I've trawled through many threads about insuring a Cali Ocean with LV. Many posts for and against.
Very useful info and thanks to all who have contributed in the past.

We have just ordered a new Cali Ocean and both our existing cars are on an LV Multicar policy.
The Cali won't be arriving until next year but I started looking round for insurance yesterday.
When I called LV, they found the exact model on their database (Cali Ocean 204 4Motion DSG) and told me the annual price would be £40 less than my current Subaru insurance which is £260. This is loads less than any of the specialists. Something many other people have experienced.

If we do decide to go with LV next year, I will specifically ask the questions about it being a campervan and will check that it is covered for things like damage to the bellows or a fire from the hob.

But as per the thread title : Has anyone had to claim for damage to, or loss caused by, any on the fittings and fixtures as supplied as part of the factory fit out?
How did you get on?

Sorry to ask yet another LV related question, but I couldn't find an answer specifically on any claims due to issues with habitation related fittings and fixtures.

Thanks

They do specifc camper insurance. We just gave our model and they insured it - I don't have to specify my Tiguan, they know what it is, same for Ocean.

I don't know if this is for conversions rather than OEM.

Our LV insurance nearly doubled this year - I'm looking to add classic car for my new series 2, so will leave for this year but probably shop around next.

Yes beware of insuring the Cali as "a car"; i.e. basic normal car insurance. It can be cheap, but it won't be covered for much in the way of contents (and given it's your "home away from home", you're likely to have a fair amount of accessories with you) and possibly not for some camping activities either.

Had the same problem. LV quoted me £320. I knew this was wrong so I called and low and behold they had insured me as a car. I’m now insured as a motor caravan on the policy and the new price was £480.

Comfort Insurance gives full cover for the habitation unit and for camping equipment, pots and pans etc. My renewal premium this year was a pleasant surprise with no increase.

£5000 personal effects cover
In the event of a fire or other damage to your vehicle, our policies underwritten by Aviva have personal effects covering up to £5000 (this covers the following items: clothing, bedding, pots and pans, and general camping equipment) so your essentials are covered!

Watch out for comfort - you need to inform them if you are storing it anywhere for more than 48 hours - I read this that I couldn’t park at an airport while on holiday without informing them and likely be charged for the pleasure.

Thanks. Will check my policy but TBH I’ve never ‘stored’ it anywhere and always use another vehicle when airport parking.

Believe that’s the same for most insurers. We have never been charged extra but we always use a secured carpark with ANPR cameras.

Thanks for all the replies. When we get the Cali and I call LV I will specifically ask if the quote is for a motorhome policy.

My main question though was if anyone had actually claimed for campervan related damage on their basic LV car policy and if they had run into problems.

A lot of people won't claim anyway for camping items as they are worried that it will cause the next renewal claim to be loaded. If damage is not great than often cheaper to replace the item rather than pay the claims excess….so end up paying a high premium to cover every eventuality for peace of mind, but would never claim if they had damage, so might have been better off getting a cheaper policy and putting the saving to one side.

Generally anything that was factory fitted when the van was built is covered, whether a van or specific camper policy.

You need to read the small print on each policy and compare them like for like.

Has anyone managed to get a multicar policy with Comfort insurance? We've been with them for as long as I can remember for the van but we separately insure a passat, with a different insurer. I like the sound of the LV multicar policy but would rather stay with Comfort for the van as they have always been very straightforward.

Jumping onto this thread.
Comfort has just sent me my renewal for £550 up £190 from last years price
Just done a LV quote for £360.
Been with Comfort for years but feel they are pricing themselves out here. Are LV any good?

I’d probably hazard a quess that the lower quote from LV is to insure the vehicle only. I’m with LV and was quoted £325. Rang them to make sure it was right and it was for vehicle only. Revised quote insured as a motor caravan covering car and habitation was £475.

Not sure if you’re a member of CAMC but I recently renewed for £320.

I asked about this before taking a policy with Comfort. Yes you do need to inform them if parking at an airport, but no problem if in a recognised airport car park with cameras etc. and no premium impact. By choice, we’d be using another car in this situation anyway., but I understand many use their van as a daily driver.

Not looking forward to our renewal in January. Our car insurance (LV) went up by 35% this year, as with many people we know. The insurers are a law unto themselves!
