Well.

I'm really confused and wondering if it's too good to be true. Just received my renewal from LV and the price has fallen from around £450 to £230.

Hi there, can I ask what year and model your California is please? I've just called LV for a quote on my 2007 SE 2.5TDi 174 and been told they no longer cover my vehicle. Been insured with them for a number of years in the past and was happy with their cover but switched to Comfort last year for a more competitive quote. They said they stopped covering a number of camper vans recently (last 6 months) mainly aftermarket conversions but can't understand why they no longer provide cover for my genuine albeit older Cali! ‍♂️

Ah okay, thanks. It seems like they’re only covering the newest models now. When the advisor was trying to select SE tdi on their computer system, the only options available were vehicles with 2.0litre engine capacities and the older Calis like mine are 2.5. Disappointing given they’re a reputable insurer and normally pretty competitive on price

I’ve just had a letter from LV saying they will no longer insure my 2019 Ocean from the renewal date of Feb 2026.

I’ve had a quick Google and got a quote of £346 from Admiral (including around £60 Multicar discount), s o will probably go with them.

Disappointing as I’ve been with LV for years and they’ve insured my Ocean from new. The quote from Admiral is around what I paid last year to LV.

Ring them - it is wrong - they are covering them - just been through the same with mine (a 2019 Ocean) ! I think they are trying to get rid of older vans 10 years plus , and converted vans, but not the more recent Calis and they just sent out a blanket mailing. Do a search here and you will see other threads about this

The key to this is checking what description they have for your Cali in their system/on your policy.
It needs to state specifically that it is a VW California.

In our case the wording is "VW CALIFORNIA T30 OCEAN 4MOTION TDI 204AUTO"

Originally LV had ours down as "VW Motorhome" and that is what caused them to refuse to renew the policy back in September this year.

I called them and asked them to check the description and change it.
After the description change they were able to quote for the renewal.
