Marine drive North bay Scarborough - overnight?

Mrs >11 says we can park overnight here. She has us planned to that tomorrow.

Council website seems to suggest very much otherwise.

Anyone have any recent experience to share?

If council say no, don’t do it. Simple really.

There are a couple of 24hr car parks that you could use though, but all prohibit sleeping from a quick glance.

AFAIK there are no English council carparks where you can camp. As “wild camping” is illegal in the UK (inc Scoland for motorised) that is not much of a suprise. There are some council ran ones in Scotland but not aware of any UK ones. Anyone know of any?

There are plenty of car park warriors though. Some make a living off hiding behind curtains in self builds in car parks and putting it on YT.

Sure Mrs >11 has probably read about some doing so on this site and other sites on one of the many apps and websites that detail these carparks. Doesn’t make it legal though without the owners permission.

I guess you can but don’t be surprised if plod knock on the window or some local kids decide to have some fun at your expense.

Wild camping on car parks that specifically prohibit it is probably responsible for the rising number of car parks that ban campervans outright.
Please don't complain if / when you get a parking ticket.

i think it is ok through winter but now the season has started they will be charging,your better off elsewhere. it's noisy there anyway with boy racers. try alpamare carpark swimming pool. used to be ok at sealife centre so might be worth a look up there but i reckon thats been stopped too

You can stay there. You can pay for 24hrs. Toilets lock themselves through the night. It’s a terrible pace to stay with 50 or so other vans rammed in.

Not for me and admonished Mrs>11 accordingly.

We stayed the night there in February, free as it's off season. very popular as its great for surfing, I counted over 50 vans parked over night, and it wasn't noisy!
We parked up and walked right round to the end of the south bay (beyond the Spa) up the cliff path and along the top walk to come down onto the promenade through the Italian Gardens. stopped at a cafe near the fish quay and had supper (crab Thermidor ) and then walked over the castle promontory down the paths to have an evening drink in the pub at the north end of the marine drive.lots of friendly people around many with dogs. good nights sleep and a cafe breakfast at the cafe on the marine drive, which was very busy with campers like us. so there you have our take on this little bit of Yorkshire ; I suppose it's all in the mind really.

However the signage clearly states that motor caravans are prohibited between 11pm and 7am, no mention of seasonal allowances.

He said it is only allowed on a particular stretch near the North side of the bay not far from the cafe shown in the recent pictures. There is a time restriction also, you can’t park before 6pm and must leave before 6am. I think he said it was £10 to stay in that area. I guess at 6am you go out and buy a daytime ticket or you get fined. I have not stayed there myself so can’t say how much space there or if it is in fact still possible so you would need to check it out. He said it was introduced for the surfers who visit from away. You could check with the people who run the cafe they may know.

Not only was I unaware of this stretch on the North Bay, but it is a great example of a council taking a practical approach resulting in a win-win
As an aside I read today that Pembrokeshire Council are removing many campervan restrictions from their carparks and providing dedicated spaces in popular tourist areas like Tenby.
Seems that not all councils hate us
