Anyone running these?

Reason I ask is, not a massively popular car/van tyre so probably easy to discount them as rubbish?

Meanwhile in the mountain bike world tyre wars are raging but one thing is undisputed, Maxxis are the best by a long way! Everyone runs DHRs. I do myself, they’re fantastic.

Back in van world, they’re about £60-70 per corner cheaper than the big name brands.

Interested to see replies. As you say, unparalleled in MTB world

Maxxis tyres on a brabus smart get really squirmy at about 65, as soon as I could I reverted to continental eco contacts, and my arse became a lot more reliable, cheap hard rubber with no grip, wet or dry

This suggests otherwise?

Rubbish.....had them on the Volvo when I bought the car.....didn't last long....use to shimmer when cold (like a poor quality motorbike tyre)....once you had some heat in them it was okay. Had them balanced / re-balanced to no avail. As it started to get colder the shimmy became more pronounced. Swapped them out for Bridgestones...and no more shimmy

Lots of variables here other than brand. Which particular model of tyre? Which load rating? Intended use ... etc. I am wary of using tyres designed as performance car tyres on a camper. The former are optimised for performance - speed and cornering - rather than longevity and durability under heavy loads. What draws you to Maxxis (not known as a van tyre specialist afaik) rather than the the range of excellent options from the bigger manufacturers. If its just price I wouldn't bother. In the big picture the difference in cost (between known excellent tyre and an unknown 'maybe') is pretty small.

I had these

No not price. Simply a case of a tyre manufacturer being at the top of the tree in one area so assuming the knowledge is transferable to other areas.

Sadly not in my case. Similarly don't buy the Bridgestones A005.

Both my Volvo and Cali are on CCs now. Both exhibited dreadful camber pull with the Bridgestones (I thought it was a Cali thing)....now a thing of the past. Changed the tyres a few weeks back on the Volvo and the Cali is on 11k on the CCs and still going strong.

The beach did 40000 miles on its first set of goodyear marathons, then switched to Hankooks in the summer and Continental Van Contact winters in the winter

Does Schwalbe make good van tires? I have the Johnny Watts 29x2.6's on my MTB and think they're brilliant.

Good question. Another excellent tyre. Never a Mary fan myself but plenty swear by them.

Ralph rear / Smart Stan on the front ...... on the XC

Ralph / Hans Dampf for the all mountain stuff....

Conti trail kings on the enduro, DHR’s on the DH rig.

Back to van tyres.

I had a bad experience with Maxxis and Bridgestone (x4) so I just put CCs on now,

Something unique to you or brand/tyre related?

I’m sure CC are a good tyre but there does seem to be a lot of herd mentality going on?

Strange thing really, all you need from a Cali tyre is low noise and longevity. The vast majority of tyres will provide more than enough grip for the way these vans are driven. Obvs some are better than others.

Standing by for incoming!!

The Bridgestone were the only all season option when I went to 18in.... they dont last and wear badly . Camber pull is exacerbated. Had enough after 3 sets so I went down the poly bush route however I also changed tyres to CCs at the same time and it was like FFS as I was driving to the garage to have the work done.......this is 90% better already.......

Stupidly I didn't put 2 and 2 together quick enough and bought a set of Bridgestone for the Volvo (cheap offer that tempted me to replace the wobbling Maxxis tyres that were at 5-6mm) . 19k later and horrific camber pull for the last 15k, I started to hate driving the car,. So I put a set of CCs on and a wow moment.......... this Volvo is really nice to drive without the need to pull me in to the ditch at the first sign of a camber.

Interesting. I was looking at my Bridgestones whilst I had the wheels off. They’ve clearly been swapped front to back (no bad thing) as the wear is even. I did look at the wear indicators and thought there is no way these will make it past 10k!

9 to 11k for me on the front but edges were never good beyond 9k......CC are at 5mm even across at 10.5k, backs look like new.....

The only downside of the tyres / bushes is the Cali is super sensitive on the front. You only notice it on the motorway above 60mph and constant inputs for camber, lines , repairs etc ...... I might drop the pressure down on the front tyres so "soften" it up a little

My original Cali 5.1 came with Goodyear Vector 4 seasons, cracking tyre all year round.
Current van has Conti vancontact which I hate lowered pressures to 53 and still rock hard, feel every crash n bang.

Sounds like you need a touch more castor?

Continental Van Contact Winters are excellent in rain and snow especially on A66 over Brough

Lowered to 63?!! The recommended pressure is 53 isn't it? Some lower this to 50 of less (I don't). Have never found the ride to be 'rock hard'. Seems good to me
