Should that not be nearer 40 than 50?I've edited my post.
215/60/17 are higher psi. Must be 53 not 63 but yeah very crashy.
I need 235/55/17 like my original Cali, a lot comfier ride.
Yep but I have this adjustable via the bushes and its bang in the green. It could be CCs particularly as they show little wear at 10.5k miles and 45psiSounds like you need a touch more castor?
I think it’s probably just crap UK roads. I never pay attention to what’s happening in this country. Once across the channel the van just tracks beautifully.Yep but I have this adjustable via the bushes and its bang in the green. Horrible tyres aren’t they? So crashy, no feel at all.My original Cali 5.1 came with Goodyear Vector 4 seasons, cracking tyre all year round.
Current van has Conti vancontact which I hate lowered pressures to 53 and still rock hard, feel every crash n bang.
Reading these threads makes me think that other Cali drivers must be like Lewis Hamilton - sensing every nuance and twitch of their tyres as they push to the limit, hitting the apex and powering out of corners. Me - Conti Vancontact seem fine as I gently roll along.Horrible tyres aren’t they? So crashy, no feel at all.
I’m not expecting Michelin PS4 levels of grip & feel in a van, but the VanContact are dire.
Not I. I pootle in it.Reading these threads makes me think that other Cali drivers must be like Lewis Hamilton - sensing every nuance and twitch of their tyres as they push to the limit, hitting the apex and powering out of corners. Me - Conti Vancontact seem fine as I gently roll along.
I think you're clutching at straws....... there will be a reason why Maxxis aren't so popular on vans....... just because they make good bike tyres does not mean they make good van tyresAnyone running these?
Reason I ask is, not a massively popular car/van tyre so probably easy to discount them as rubbish?
Meanwhile in the mountain bike world tyre wars are raging but one thing is undisputed, Maxxis are the best by a long way! Everyone runs DHRs. I do myself, they’re fantastic.
Back in van world, they’re about £60-70 per corner cheaper than the big name brands.
Isn’t that exactly what I was asking?I think you're clutching at straws....... there will be a reason why Maxxis aren't so popular on vans....... just because they make good bike tyres does not mean they make good van tyres
I wasn’t having a pop at you, sorry if I caused offenceIsn’t that exactly what I was asking?
Arrggh. The issues of text. A blunt instrument at best! Non taken.I wasn’t having a pop at you, sorry if I caused offence
Interesting. I took it up to Wales last weekend (circa 400mile round trip) and I didn't think it was that bad. I think I had gotten use to the camber pull on the VW, and then the Volvo. As it was quite strong on the Volvo, the VW felt light, responsive and twitchy . Now that the Bridgestones are off the Volvo and its not trying to pull me into the ditch at the first opportunity, the VW feels....normal, precise9 to 11k for me on the front but edges were never good beyond 9k......CC are at 5mm even across at 10.5k, backs look like new.....
The only downside of the tyres / bushes is the Cali is super sensitive on the front. You only notice it on the motorway above 60mph and constant inputs for camber, lines , repairs etc ...... I might drop the pressure down on the front tyres so "soften" it up a little
