Hi,

Does anyone know how much movement (how loose) the side door middle roller assembly should be in its track?

Have tried to upload video clip, but cant find supported file type & file is too large.

My roller assembly appears quite slack in the guide and the door is 'jumpy / stutters' sometimes jumping back open when closing.

Many thanks

'Bump'
Anyone.. its been a few weeks, no-one able to offer some helpful advice based on their vehicles??

There is some play at all rollers. But as I can't see a video, I can't tell if it's normal or not. Also I only have a manual sliding door, so can't really help you out.
If you want to post a video, you can use any video platform (youtube, vimeo, ...) and post a link to the video.

Hi, thanks for responding, I've really struggled to upload video, format and size restricted. Will try a YouTube link.

With regard to manual & auto door, think it'd be same hardware minus the automation (or at least that's how I'd approach it personally? If you could post what you've got, that would be useful, maybe me being unfamiliar.. I'm worrying about nothing?

Thanks

I'll have a look tomorrow. There is a fair amount of play to deal with the door. Electric door?

I would say that is pretty normal ,

my manual door with power close has the same amount of play as yours.

As did my previous T5.1

Clean the rollers and channels (top middle &bottom)

Check the bottom surface is clean and clear of debris , as with the rollers that there is nothing embedded into the rollers.

WD40 is good for flushing the channels out, , be sure to have lots of paper towel ready to stop it running down the paintwork

Edit the bottom channel can be treated with wax, heated and poured along the channel bed (similar is used at factory) something like hard surf wax (Tropical / Base) melted in a tiny metal watering can , applied along the length of the channel bed, helps the door run smoothly allow it to dry and go hard fully before using the door) .

The channel and rollers need to be spotless before doing the above otherwise you’ll just make a grinding past

Edit ; do not be tempted to use candle wax, it is too hard when set and will break up causing issues

Have replaced upper & lower rollers + anti-pinch seal. Just wondered about this play, that's all, does it look normal when compared to other Calis, would anticipate hardware of
middle roller to be carry over (minus the assisted open / close components) so hearing that your play seems the same is good.

The door is designed to float a lot and play when the door is open seems to be a design feature. It’s not until you start looking at the amount of movement, when the door is open , that it strike you “is this normal “
IMO it is.
My experience is when the door need maintenance / components replaced it lets you know by sound or friction increases or both !

Edit: the sliding doors and carriers, rollers etc are the same on all t5 onwards

Interestingly.. I sent this clip to local VW and the response was that it looks like the track might be the issue - you better book it into the workshop!

Seems good though from the feedback I've had here, that our Cali is 'normal'. Good stuff
