Mobile Projector Recommendations

Hope everyone is keeping well?

I wondered if any in the Camper community have any recommendations from experiences of projectors whilst out and about in their vans?

I've been looking at the Anker Nebula Capsule 2 BUT is not the cheapest and many people have reported that whilst the kit itself is brilliant the software and ease of use are not great - difficulties using Netflix etc and a general feeling that the whole setup is based around American usage.

I just want something I can watch films on whilst in the van, that isn't too bulky and has some sort of semi decent battery life.

Yes, me too.

I'm an Apple man myself and a lot of the Projectors that keep cropping up use the Android / Google Play store platform(s) and many MANY reports of things not working as they should. That's what I like about Apple stuff - it just works!

Seriously doubt I’d use one either but interested in people’s setups.

and then I use a lightning adapter to link an HDMI cable to it from my iPhone, works really well.

We have an Apeman M400 which is great.

Plays Netflix, Amazon, BBC etc fine via Iphone when you use the official Apple HDMI/Lightning cable.

We sometimes connect to a bluetooth speaker if using in the garden as the internal Speaker is more suited to a small room / van.

You can either live stream, or , download films before you travel to save on data / overcome poor connection.

It comes in a nice case, is battery powered, has HDMI in, it's own (basic) speaker, audio out and a USB out which I used to power a chromecast dongle connected to the wifi on my phone hotspot. It doesn't have its own operating system. It's definitely a nifty little device - certainly bright enough in the evening.

I guess if I was to sell I would look for £240 inc. delivery - I'd also throw in the screen I bought but never used. If you're interested PM me - I guess we shouldn't be negotiating sales in this thread!

The only drawback with it was that to charge it up you have to use the inverter - USB charging would be so much easier.

Always been interested in the idea of doing this, but would need to be minimalist with no more cables to fall over when moving about. I think i would also like to have the projector mounted so i didnt have the faff of sitting it on a surface i might want to use. i was considering under the rear drop down compartment might be good or even inside it so that it appears when you open the door, but i cant help thinking how impractical it might be especially as projecting onto the pop top negates the use of the front seats as viewing positions. I am also currently in the "use an ipad" camp and the screen at 12.9" is perfectly good for us as we are so close to it. I do like the idea if one is sitting in the passenger seat and one on the rear seat of projecting to the side door blind if you can get a good enough image from a projector sitting above the kitchen area.

I too was looking at a very decent projector and screen set up. Kept on failing to get all the features I wanted without fuss. In the end bought a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 . Fantastic screen 10 hour battery, big drive very fast and has all the apps you could ever want. Extra plus is ability to share to 2 people the audio if you get the Apple approved headphones , beats also ok if they have the w1 chip. I have a magnetic stand on order to mount it. With the cost of data sims dropping bought the virgin £6 a month sim due to data roll over. A plus is that it will fit nicely at the tap end of the bath, forward planning pays off.

Have the Nebula. Works well and decent brightness and definition. Can be a bit picky though on connections to an iphone and drm content but a chromecast works well too. It is very good if you have a decent 4G or wifi signal (Have Three 4G unlimited data for 12 a month) as the various apps, iplayer, aman video, netflix are seamless. Would buy again.

We’ve a Nebula (1) and it’s great. Small, compact easy to use if you have good WiFi or 4G. Try eBay for 2nd hand ones. Got mine for £240 including branded tripod stand.

Hi, I am aware that Sky doesn't allow casting due to copyright infringement laws so it's difficult (maybe impossible) to get Sky projected through a mini projector. Having said that, has anyone had any luck projecting Sky using a mini projector and an iPhone? If so, which mini projector did you use and how did you set it up? I have alternatives to run Sky so I'm not looking for "other ideas" but my original idea was to set my iPhone up as a hotspot and allow the mini projector to use the phone through wifi.

That doesn't work with the Pico Genie Impact 3.0 and, in fact, the Pico Genie does not allow Sky Go to run on the Pico's Android OS. The Pico's Android OS is woefully old and outdated (7.0 version 2016) while the most current version is Android 11, so consider that before you buy a Pico. Secondly, Pico requires you to use an app called Google Play to download apps and they say BBC iPlayer can be loaded onto the Pico; however, BBC iPlayer could not be found on Google Play. On a good note, the Pico had good picture and sound quality and was good for running Netflix. But since it does not have a good app for running live tv, it's going back.
