Not sure whether i need to get grumpy about this one...

We've had Dizzy from new end at the of last September.. never had any need to investigate where the wheel jack is... until this morning (got some devonport 17s with all season tyres and wanted to try them on!). Eventually get into the compartment behind the seat to find no jack... Got the tyre lever and the towing eye but no jack...

So only thing i can think is that as we have the 18" sport kit with the pump and gunk the jack isnt shipped... can anyone confirm this or do i need to get shirty at the dealer ( who i wont name... yet)

Cheers

I suspect it’s an oversight at the dealer's end

If you don’t have a spare wheel from factory (which you can’t with 18”) then you won’t get any toolkit/jack.

My MY23 came with a jack missing. I found that out at collection so the dealer 'found' one for me.

But I have 17" wheels, a spare wheel and no pump & gunk; I think I have read that with 18" wheels you might only get the latter, though that would not satisfy me and I would still want a jack and hope to get a VW one that fits into the tool kit from the supplying VW dealer (whichever way, asking or buying), after all they supplied the wheel brace as I understand your post.

BTW the VW wheel brace (if the same as mine) is hopeless when it comes to using the VW adaptor on the locknuts, as its angle is all wrong. I carry a torque wrench and long socket which is far better.

BTW2. You are wise to take the wheels off early, as they bond to the hubs. Mine were stuck solid after less than a year. Copper grease or similar to the two facing surfaces makes a big difference. There are several posts here to this effect, with some posters warning about NOT greasing the threads of the wheel nuts.

Get shirty if you like but as stated before 18 = no spare = no jack - but you get some lovey GUNK to pump.

Bugger and double bugger.... i had a feeling that could be the case...

Gonna check the one that comes with our tiguan to see what its capacity is...

By the sheepish look from my dealer when I found the jack missing, a previous 18" 'gunked' customer may possibly have made a fuss and mine had been nicked to ameliorate; hopefully a replacement was ordered and replaced for the one nicked for me to stop the iteration.

In other words you may get one free if you ask, if not you they may charge but perhaps not that expensively in the scale of things.

I ended up buying the cradle for the spare, a jack , and a spare wheel. You won't get the cradle neither with the sports pack. The club shop sell it. The spare wheel I got off Ebay.

No spare wheel ordered, no jack so don’t get grumpy ;)

On the subject of the factory supply jack.

Can anyone recommend something a bit more sturdy, which doesn't take up too much room and is low enough to slide under the jacking points?

I was very unimpressed with the one supplied with our Cali when I had to sort out a flat tyre. It felt very unstable when raised high enough to swap over the flat tyre with the spare.

Mine seems fine with the right amount of 'site preparation'.

Dizzy might be interested in yours though the T6 may be diffierent to T6.1...

I have a nice little Halfords oil one for my Land Rover plus various wooden blocks for height compensation.

I didn't get one either.

I politely asked for one as per the inventory list on the app., and that jacking the vehicle and repairing a puncture with sealant are not mutually exclusive.:Grin

VW really are cutting costs and corners now. 70K for a van and no jack.

Must be a California thing.
My Multivan has no spare but does have a can of tyre Gunk, an electric tyre pump and a Jack + Wheel Brace.

I wonder? Has anyone out there ever successfully deployed the gunk to get them home or to a garage? Every time I have bought a car with gunk (and no spare) and had a damaged tyre it has been useless.

It cost me over 300 pounds to buy the cradle, jack, and spare wheel. VW replaced all of that with a 20 quid gunk kit. Also, I had to pay extra for the sports pack. Nice little earner VW.

Don't regret the sports pack though because it looks awesome.

A majority of new vehicles, nowadays, don't have spare wheels and the main reason is weight saving, particularly with EVs and due to emissions on IC vehicles.
Many roadside rescue vehicles carry a universal spare to get you to a place of safety.

...and an electric tyre pump to re-pump after pumping the gunk (or does everyone including 17" wheelers get that?)

Our MY22 Cali has 18” rims so no spare tyre. It’s supplied with the can of gunk and the useless compressor, but also a Jack and wheel brace.

TBH, I have the jack in mine but the wider all weather tyre option. Reality is if you drop the tyre cage to get the spare out it hits the floor as tyre is too wide and wheel cannot be removed. Also I jacked mine up at home as a test, it is so unstable I would not do it at the side of a road anyway. Plan to add a Tyreweld to my toolkit just in case but -probably just call VW assist to change the wheel.

If you jack the nearside rear wheel up a little and remove that side spare wheel stud the spare wheel can then be removed see the link below (including #7 & #10 therein) about taking off the bolt retaining 'circlip'

I think the jack is fit for purpose with the correct site choice (i.e. level), preparation and precautions but if in doubt you are best to call out VW assist as you say, as tyre changes can be risky for the inexperienced and these vans are heavy. The obvious first rule is to never be under a jacked vehicle and keep a wheel under the car whilst the fixed wheel is removed.

If the supplied gunk is used it prevents a permanent repair been carried. Holts tyre weld is water based and a repair can be carried out as it’s easily cleaned off. Plus it’s considerably easier and quicker to use.
Also the supplied gunk has a use by date, it can go solid in the container.

IMO unless the damage to a tyre is Small, something like a slow puncture, the Gunk is useless.

My experience with using the Gunk twice: 1st time didn't work as the damage to the tyre did not allow the gunk to seal, gunk came out of tyre, had to be Recovered from Motorway.
2nd time : Gunk sealed but tyre was still deflating, stopped several times to reinflate it to allow me to get to tyre shop, tyre was deemed unrepairable because of the gunk use. Alloy wheel needed to be cleaned up at extra cost!
Tyre shops do not like the Gunk.

If you don't have a spare wheel and the equipment to change it, get breakdown recovery. The only people who like the gunk is the Accountants in charge of motor companies!

Yep like I said, not something I will do at the side off the road.

I am always mindful that I could find myself with a puncture without mobile signal and stranded, with no alternative but to solve the problem on my own.
