Needing advice on vacation in Norway!

Hi there! My boyfriend and I rented a 600 from an outfit in northern Germany. We’re in Norway now and can’t get the heat or the hot water to work. The truma unit is not functioning - so no hot water or heat. The truma vent side window is closed.

It’s rather cold at night and three weeks of no showers or heat could be a challenge. We are wild camping - not at campgrounds so we are not plugged in. Any suggestions on troubleshooting or resetting would be greatly appreciated!

image.jpgWhen we press the panel, the heat is blacked out (as is AC! See photo…)

We have an owners manual … but is in German. We have reached out to the rental company as well and haven’t heard back.

also: we reset the truma by pressing the blue button. No error codes on the unit. In a 2021 600.

On a T6.1 I believe i’m right in saying that if the diesel in the tank drops below a certain level, then the Aux Heater will not function. Not sure if that’s also the case on a Grand California but just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion on that. We’ve had a full tank of diesel each time we’ve tried to run it… hoping for an equally elegant solution.

Hi first turn of the main power switch in the electrical cabinet off then back in to see if it resets, if not on Truma control panel not the main Vw panel scroll through the screen and try to set the system. Here are the fault code if one is displayed.
Hope you get sorted

Hi pic from the BW manual

if you have had to reset the blue button (frost control) you need to refill with water then once working keep the heating on if it’s dropping near freezing overnight.

Thank you so much for sharing these manual pages. We’ll take a look and see if any solutions emerge. We reset the power in the back and didn’t get any error codes - just the blacked out heat button on the control panel that can’t be pushed to switch on the electric/gas/heat. Thanks again for your help!

Camping car company like Ferda can help. There is a microswitch/diode under the seat.

Interesting idea - do you think they would help even though we rented from cultcamper in Germany? We have pressed the micro switch several times and it doesn’t impact anything unfortunately. We also reset the power in the back.

They are serious, book an appointment first. The rental company should take the bill.

There should be an available energy input showing on the bottom left of the screen. I’m not sure about the diesel version of this boiler but the gas version should look like this when the gas is on. If it’s not showing check under the sink to see if it has been shut offF98B0A0B-C7D6-4D29-AF25-E5BC21881D76.jpeg400DD43B-33D1-41A2-821D-13D15FDE57AF.jpeg

Hi this is the control panel below the passenger seat you need to reset the heating controls with. The main VW panel should function once you have checked you have water/fuel and reset this control.
Hope this helps.

That’s a very helpful photo. As you can see from the one of my panel, the gas option doesn’t even show up… is it possible that there is an electric only hot water and heater option? There is a truma connected to the gas bottles and the hob works great.9216E848-F66C-46CE-AE5B-1056BF9BB972.jpeg

Can you take it to a VW dealer? Assuming you have a VW commercial dealer close to where you are.

Hi! Yes, we have been to two VW dealerships in Norway today. Neither had time to see us until ten days from now and reported that they had never worked on a GC before. We also went to two camper repair places - both were two busy to see us for another ten days. Naturally extremely grateful for everyone’s help on here!

And yes, the gas was on when photo was taken. I was boiling water for tea. :)

Hi the truma heater works on Gas/electric or diesel:/electric. You need to be connected to electric hook up on a site for that to work. Please try the truma control unit press the button and scroll through the options you can reset the system from this control.

My next step would be to go to the truma control panel and check Gas is selected as a fuel source.
-Press the button until the 4 options come up
-Turn the button until the bottle symbol with the lightening bolts flashes
-Press the button to select and turn the button until gas comes up
-push to select gas
-press the go back to Home Screen arrow button

You should able to control the boiler and heating using the truma panel rather than using the vw panel. There are a few videos on YouTube showing how to operate it.

Are you able to add a picture of your truma panel?

Here’s our truma screen. The only option is to change the language and the time. We’re gonna go to a campsite with electric and try to reboot this morning. I will post the updates. Thank you all for your ideas!!! We are so appreciative!

Here’s a video to help you may need to follow this to reset the boiler.

Looks like you need to perform an intial start up reset using the menu under the spanner icon. I found the instructions below:
