Needing advice on vacation in Norway!

Hi there. Well. We tried to reset the truma and the reset button hadn’t been triggered - nothing to push. Makes me wonder if the truma has ever been turned on — only two other people have rented it and they stayed at campgrounds and used those facilities. Any ideas on how to turn it on… for the first time. Here are photos for reference.

Looks like you need to perform an intial start up reset using the menu under the spanner icon. I found the instructions below:

Thanks for posting this - it starts out the same but after it INIT screen it goes right back to the language/time set without ever getting to the power source selection.

This is from the manual, Check that the wires are connected from the boiler to the control panel. The manual shows a fuse on the boiler.
Not sure what else to suggest.

Worth a call to VW assist?

What is VW assist? This is a rental. We have stopped at multiple VW service centers in Norway and no one has time or availability to help. Can’t say I blame them … We are foreign tourists in a rented van so clearly not repeat customers.

We will take a look at the fuse on the truma at our next stop! Great suggestion.

Just out of curiosity, is there a fuse or break on the back electrical that is associated with the truma? Google translate from German is a little problematic. :)

VW assist is the European wide roadside assistance service that comes with all new vans.

Easiest way of contacting them is to press the spanner button next to the red SOS button above the rear view mirror.
It will put you through to the call centre.

What's the worst that can happen - they say they can't help?

Oh - I accidentally pressed that button and it said that the service had been disabled. Stymied again!!!

Try this, I realise its supposed to be for Uk vans in Europe but not a lot to loose:

Europe

If you breakdown while in Europe then please follow these steps:

Call Volkswagen European Roadside Assistance 24-hour helpline: 00 800 1330 3939. When calling don’t forget that dialling and ringtones differ from country to country and therefore the 00 800 1330 3939 number may not work from some telephone networks. If you experience difficulties, please use the following alternative number to reach Volkswagen European Roadside Assistance: 00 33 (0) 472 171 258. You will have 24-hour English speaking assistance – European garage mechanics and technicians are unlikely to speak English. Your European Breakdown cover will provide a translation service for you.
When you call state that the Vehicle has European Motoring Assistance and provide your details to the operator (your name, the model and registration of your van and telephone number)
Advise the operator of the location of your vehicle, the nature of any issue, and provide any other information requested by the operator.
The European Territory for Volkswagen European Motoring Assistance is:

Here’s the fuses in the electrical cabinet. I think it’s from right to left.

Hi Andy when we first had the van and the pump kept running they turned up within an hour only to say the camper element was not covered.
Cheers

Ive had them sort roof problems & the suggestion was to use them as a way of getting a priority booking with a dealer.

Hi all! Just wanted to give the latest from our visit to Ferda in Mo I Rana, Norway. The owner was extremely helpful and squeezed us is at the end of the day. Apparently, the truma was getting no power to it. The technicals wired a temporary connection to the unit through the 12-volt plug in the back which runs off the leisure battery. With power to the unit, we were able to reboot and now we have heat and hot water!!! The rental company will have to deal with the wiring issue when we return.

Thanks so much to everyone on this thread - Yorkshireman especially- for providing so much assistance. Nice to be back on the road with our only problem being where to go next. :)

Glad to here you are sorted have a great trip!

Ha en god tur i Norge og kjør pent.

No it isn't your only problem, If you are not on a campsite, I expect your next problem to be the heater going off in the middle of the night as your leisure battery is flat.
If not tonight then tomorrow night unless you are spending hours and hours each day driving. Putting the fridge in night mode helps.

Hi there - the water pump is running almost continuously. Is this an issue or just an annoyance? We’ve been unplugging the fuse to get it to stop at night
But wondering if there’s another solution.

99.9999% chance that its the kitchen tap causing it, the microswitch inside gets wet & causes the pump to run until the pump burns out.

If it was your own van I would suggest removing the draw under the sink & cutting the electrical feed to the tap.

The tap will be replaced by the dealer for a new upgraded one under a recall so you shouldn't be charged for causing damage.
As its a hire van just check with the owner first.

That stops the continuous pump running & lets the bathroom tap / shower & toilet flush work. The bathroom tap on its extending hose will reach the kitchen sink if needed.

Other than the faulty tap (which is sounds like it might be) just check the external shower switch is in off position as this also makes pump run all the time.
