Negotiating a better deal

I am looking at a main dealer VW Cali Ocean 2023 which I think is a good deal. However the manufacturers warranty end in Jine 2026 and I have prevriously had bad experience (Skoda) with used car warranty. I am therefore not interested in used 12 month warranty that comes with van.

1. I think I am right in that I can extend the manufactures warranty at the end of the existing one? if so when?
2. Do you think I can negotiate not having the used warranty in place of manufactuers warranty?
3. What tips and tricks do you recommend for getting a better deal before signing on bottom line?
4. I think it comes with standard 17 inch whels and I prefer the 18 inch, anything I can negotiate here?
5. They want to sell me the protector on the paint and seats?

I'm sure others will be along to advise in more detail on your warranty options.

One thing I will say, and this is based on the opinions of a mate who's been in the car sales / leasing business since we left school in the 80's, don't go with any of the paint protection / upholstery treatment / undersealing etc etc. It's usually a cheap upsell package for them, charged at premium rates but badly applied by non specialist people.

When I bought my van (new), my mate put me onto a dealer contact to get the quote and, quite literally, the first thing he said was "I won't bother with the paint protection stuff, I'm sure (mate's name) will have told you about it".

If you want to go for something like that, look around for a specialist who will do it properly.

3. Tell them the MAX budget you have to spend and ask how they can help you achieve the purchase at a price you can afford so both you AND the dealer are happy. Be prepared to ‘gently’ walk away if a hard no.
