Can anybody recommend a campsite near Utrecht that is likely to be open in mid-March?

We are looking for somewhere to use as a base within an hours drive of the main cities - Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam. I have been searching on-line but everywhere I have found only seems to open at the end of March.

Also recommendations of places to visit outside of Amsterdam would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

on this website you can find tons of places, not only in The Netherlands :

btw I am going to "The rabbit Hill" Landal park. It ain't cheap but there's a lot to do for the kids when the weather is bad... If the weather is nice, it's a great place to go take your bike or go for a walk in "De hoge Veluwe"

don't know how to edit my own post, but we are going there next week :) I hope the upcoming storms aren't to bad as it will be my first camp trip with the whole family :)

You could consider camping site "Amstelkade" https://www.amstelkade.nl/ which is right in between the cities you mention. It's what we in Holland call a 'nature camp ground', which means small and green. Not too many facilities but all you'll need. This one is open in march. The downside is that you need to buy a (12 pound) membership that allows you to stay on all these 'nature camp grounds'. Cheap if you are able to use it a few times a year, but more of a downside when you're only here for a short period.

Also, this is a list of all camp sites that are open the entire year: https://www.kampeermeneer.nl/winterkamperen-camping-nederland/. The list is devided by province (region). You would wan;t the province 'Utrecht' (https://www.kampeermeneer.nl/winterkamperen-camping-nederland/#utrecht) or 'Noord-Holland' (https://www.kampeermeneer.nl/winterkamperen-camping-nederland/#noordholland) or 'Zuid-Holland' (https://www.kampeermeneer.nl/winterkamperen-camping-nederland/#zuidholland).

Many thanks. I ended up finding a site in Haarlem. Amstelkade was full! The list is not very accurate though I’m afraid. Many of the sites are technically open but only rent out statics or caravans in the winter. They don’t accept Tourers until the last weekend of March.

We’ve just decided to abort our trip and head home. I’m concerned that France may do something stupid and close its borders preventing us from getting back to the channel tunnel for our return trip. So we have moved our booking (free of charge even though not a flexible ticket - well done. Eurotunnel) to tomorrow.

Europe is shutting down. All Museums in The Netherlands are closed. Bars and Restaurants are still open but they are deserted (where we were ). We were going to stop in Gent on the way back tomorrow but I am told that all tourist sites, bars, restaurants and non-food shops have been closed in Belgium.

Probably should have aborted the trip last week and stayed at home.

I had work in The Hague next Thursday and had a whole week trip planned around it including keukenhof tulip garden. Fortunately work got cancelled yesterday for an unrelated reason and saved me having to make some difficult decisions myself. Reading this made me even more glad we’re not going.

Hope you got back safely via Calais. I wasn’t paying but was surprised how reasonable Stena was from Harwich to the Hook. £280 with a cabin.

Too bad you had to make this choice. Not a fun choice I imagine. The last few days the Netherlands seems to have realised that we too need to take a few serious precautions. The attitude towards the whole situation seems to have changed over the last 2 days. So I think you made the right choice. I'm sure it's perfectly fine and safe to be here, but public life is indeed closing down a bit, so there is less to see and do, especially for tourists/visitors. Perhaps spend our time now planning new trips :)

Glad we decided to go to Scotland next week. NC500 here we come. Won't have any food though supermarket shelves were empty yesterday it was like Christmas with people filling their trolley to bursting.
