New campervan time T7 YouTube video

Experts in hard standing and ehu. I don't need this guy with his annoying tutting before he starts talking telling me how good something is. In my opinion from what I've seen from other reviews, 85k of cheese, its sh1t. Beeping annoying doors, risk of flooding the van filling up the tank everytime, underseat storage 25 % bigger? No it isn't. The water tank is smaller too. All of this oooh I can get out in the road safe because of the side door. I can do that in my t6. Walk through and go out the passenger door, not difficult. As for camping, unless you stay in pissy laybys it's not an issue, and if it was, you could park the other way round. 1 burner. Sh1t, I use my double all the time. Fridge, sh1t. Let's all the cold air out when you open it. Touch screens are always a recipe for disaster freezing failing etc. Those back seats making the bed, terrible faff. I'm sorry but vw need to go back to basics with this. No way would I have one for half the price
Stop sitting on the fence! I think they summed it up nicely. Though, as always, why use one word when 100 will suffice. Its a great primary use car/van to do some occasional camping in. The Transporter based camper is just a great campervan.

I thought their review was ok but would have liked to see it side-by-side with the T6.1. When I was buying I did compare them side-by-side and went for the T7. For me, the compromises were greatly outweighed by the improvements. Others have taken a different view, quite rightly. However, what has amazed me is the aggressive divide it has created in the California community. I can only assume it's because people think the T7 is not worthy of the name!

I'd have to agree with you there Ian. It is quite amusing how worked up some people get over the new Cali, simple answer is, well don't buy one then !!!. I like what they said in there review about not comparing the vans, they are not the same. As we all know 6.1 is finished, T7 is here and thats that. If its not for you, thats ok, the 6.1 is better in many ways for a lot of people, I sold mine October last year. I don't think the T7 will ever get the cult following the transporter based cali or conversions have, and maybe thats why many people are so passionate about the new model not coming up to there expectations, but hey, at least its not ford based.

I like that Sarah was jealously eyeing the T6.1 on the campsite. It was obvious she was not impressed with the Glampervan.

They took the time to work out if the toilet could be used in the Ocean, which was very useful. They also explained how it would be possible to create more floorspace with a shorter bed. Hopefully, some clever aftermarket products will appear to make that happen.

It’s the same every time the van is updated, I was one of the first T6.1 owners and the amount of hate for that van that came out of forum was amazing.
It appeared that not having a lid on the dashboard cubby hole and a glovebox that wasn’t big enough to hold encyclopaedia britanica was an issue as serious as Covid & because of it the T6.1 wasn’t fit to be called a California.

Not exactly experts on the T7 though, quite a few examples of either not understanding the vehicle or how to use features.
They happily skip over the 25% bigger storage under the bed and the ease of sliding the rear chairs forwards to store stuff behind was not called out.
They weren’t using the app to fill the water tank, they didn’t understand the battery boost button on the dash. They clearly did not figure out how to use the app or control pad in the rear. They were foxed by the front window blinds, which are so good when you use them the right way round and take seconds to install.
I agree about the lower mattress which is why I’ve added a topper, just as they did with their 6.1.
The idea of not being prepared to open the side door to slide out the mini table I found an odd observation, it takes seconds.
I suspect they were trying to be even handed, however it’s hard comparing with their bigger van.
I’ve downsized and I love the easy parking aspect of the multi van size and agree with their summary that it’s a multi use van, as opposed to a separate motorhome and I suspect that’s exactly the market VW were after.
Fully agree! No experts as they have no clue what they are reviewing.

Thats a bit harsh. At least they can call up many years experience from camping in T6 and T6.1's unlike the vast majority of YT review nupties/auto journos/influencers.
