New T6.1 order delays

I wonder what stage 5 actually is then? We've been to the Cali factory in Hannover (and the main T6 plant) but it was back in 2018 and my memory isn't good enough to remember if they explained the different stages to us specifically. You can see from below that there is a lot that happens between status 20 and 30 - so stage 5 could be something like components for the kitchen maybe, or the roof?

In a nutshell it goes like this (I don't know about the exact process for the beach, apologies);

(start of status 20)
Transporter factory (site 1)
stamp panels, create body shell (with hole pre-cut in roof for cali and side panels with holes already in for water/electric etc)
create running gear / engine/gearbox etc
paint bodyshell
'marriage' of engine/gearbox etc to bodyshell
some interior trim fitted (dashboard, steering wheel etc etc)
basic tests

transport unfinished van to site 2, cali factory on the other side of Hannover (3x vans transported at a time, on a car transporter, by road, covered trailer - as the unfinished vans just had a hole in the roof at this point)

Cali factory (site 2)
floor fitting
kitchen fitting
interior fitting inc seats etc
roof fitted (they have stock of all colours of roof panel and bellows and make them up to spec manually for each vehicle going through. bellows are manually fitted to roof)

Each cali is then tested for water ingress - they lift the roof in one of two special water test bays where they simulate heavy rain from multiple angles, while someone is inside checking for leaks around the roof/bellows etc

Cali leaves factory, gets moved to Emden on a train from Hannover. (status 30)

Great post, and clearly explains the stages. Can’t seem to get the detailed status French orders on the VW France site unfortunately, though I did get a text from the dealer today confirming mine is in production…. Hopefully get it by mid September :bananadance2

Newbie here looking to buy.

Just been to a dealer to enquire about buying a Beach Camper and been told wait time is 10-12months. Basically advised not to order now and see if things improve, or any offers appear down the line. Appreciate the honesty from the salesman and guess he doesn't need another customer continually chasing for updates that the factory are too optimistic with. Anyone else hearing the same thing?
I had a dabble on Drive the Deal last night and got quoted a 9% discount on retail but no mention of delivery timescale. Anyone any experience using this site or another to get hold of a vehicle in a more reasonable timescale or are all dealers facing same issue with VW factory?
Someone said on my intro thread that Beaches don't have as long a lead time as Oceans & Coasts but not what the dealer I spoke to says.

Well I never trust car dealers. Amazing he doesn't want to take your order!
The quickest way to get a new van will be a cancelled order, so you could ask him to keep you informed of that. I'd get in the queue, by ordering via DtD (or AutoeBid), and if deals come along in future, you can take your deposit back and re-order.
I don't think there's any public rhyme or reason why some orders are coming through quicker, but from this forum (and my Eurovans dealer) Beaches and Coasts clearly are. The fewer options you tick, the more likely is perhaps true too.

I ordered a Beach Camper through drivethedeal (Eurovans Crawley) on 7th July. Was told lead time will be end of Q1/earlyQ2 2022. So March/April. I thought it was currently somewhere around 10-12 months. I asked about the difference in lead time between the Oceans/Coast/Beaches (being aware of the rumours that Oceans were taking longer) but the dealer said he wasn't seeing much difference. I'm not quite sure about the logic of waiting to see if things improve if you really want a Beach Camper. ?? Wait another 6 months to be told that the lead time has reduced to 7-8 months?!?!? If ordered though DTD it would most likely be a dealership near the London airports/SE. I'm sure they wouldn't discourage you based on an extended lead time and the 9-10% discount makes up for the wait surely?

The only way to get to the front of the queue is to join it (knowing how long it it)

Orders can always be cancelled so it’s win/win

I get the feeling there are lots of vans stuck at stage 5 in the factory. Mine is as well. Ordered Ocean in early Dec. Dealer and VW Chat don’t know anything more than this.
same as me ordered january and being told it will be next year :( but they still dont know when, soul destroying

Visited my dealer at Eurovans today, and he had just received a very long new list of expected delivery dates.
I ordered my Ocean end of April 2021 and had unconfirmed build date of week 41 originally. Now the list says build date Jan 2022, and expect delivery end of Feb/March so only consolation, it will have a new 22 number plate.

your glass i half full respect to your positive thinking f3

So, my van is due to go into build on Monday - how do I keep track of its build progress - is this what VW Chat is useful for so I’m not constantly hounding my poor dealer?

Chat will refer you to your dealer.

Just be aware their has been a 2/3 week factory closure so that *may* push your build date to the right, I’m hoping the factory opens as mine as well as some others were part way through build when the factory closed.

Yep I’ve been asking my dealer about this but they say they’re still expecting it to start build on Monday? Anyone’s guess really isn’t it? Hope you get some good news on yours soon?

Realistically, there is probably little point pinging vw chat for at least the 2 week build period. And I was told it could even be the Friday of your build week. So I shouldn't assume that yours will be straight out the blocks at 0800 Monday morning. Believe me I have had all the excuses out there. Still no word on our build week 20 Coast. Even if they had set fire to it and started again from scratch we should have had news by now.:headbang

Fingers crossed you’ll be one of the ones that suddenly finds out it’s at the dealers! Love those stories!

Had confirmation today from VW chat "it's in final stages of build in Hannover" no stage numbering given, just that.... who knows! Just glad it's in production to be honest :D

I'm getting a complete information blackout from VW. Since my build started on 14th June I've had several updates after chasing the dealer. Basically that its stuck at stage 5 due to spare parts shortage. Its exasperating that the dealer or chat can't offer any more info. We have no idea if/when we will get the Ocean.

Well after 7 months, meant to be picking up our new Coast this Friday.
It's at vw Liverpool, all ready and waiting.
What could go wrong.....
Well my daughter has tested positive so now all in self isolation till next week .
Shes fine. Just board of sitting in the sun with nothing to do.
Just goes to show, sometimes it's just how it goes.

That's so disappointing for you Trudi. Wishing her a speedy recovery and that you all stay safe.
