New T6.1 order delays

I’ve just had the best email update from SMG, they said that they have the Cali and it’s in the workshop having its dealer fit accessories added as we speak and picking up next week!! Yay!!
Bosh!
What dealer fit accessories did you plump for?

We went for the lowering, side tubes, and bike rack. They have the private ref to sort out too. I’ve asked the to send me a pic to show the kids as we are all on the edge of our seats in anticipation now.
dead happy for you ,these snippets of people getting the bet news really keeps this thread going as we all wait for the same moment ,try to take some shots when you collect at dealers and post :) :) good luck!!

Mine is still stuck at the port of Emden. Its been there for 10 days now so another 5 left in theory although reading these posts the maximum doesn't always match up to reality. So close but so far away.

I’m thinking about PPF protection to the front. My current car has full PPF and is a year old and looks like new. Easy to clean and not a mark on it. It just costs quite a bit on top of quite a pricey Cali. It’s best to get it done from new though as the stone chips appear quickly.

Looks like it could use that clean! Tremendous Palmerstons...
The dealer said they all look like this after shipping and sitting at docks. Black doesn’t help either. I almost don’t want the dealer to clean it in case they scratch that lovely new paintwork. OCD issues!! I’ll take some new photos to post when I pick it up nice and clean next week. Only five more sleeps!!

I am having PPF over the bonnet, wings, front & rear bumper, wing mirrors, front pillar, roof front and ceramic over the rest of the body..I hat cleaning cars!! Hope it is worth it

You think you’ll get it detailed and ceramic to perfect and protect the paint, make the black paint and wheels easy to keep clean?

Who will do it?

I was going to ask the same question. I used Reep (https://www.reepautomotivegroup.com) last time but that was about £4K but haven’t had them quote for the Cali yet. I’m thinking maybe about £1k for just the front?
I’ve been round a few and there’s clearly a super premium level like Topaz and NVN milking the ferrari market and wanting to charge £2.5k+ for PPFing the front and ceramic the lot. Then there are realists like Azuri and FAW who are closer to £1500. Azuri have been recommended elsewhere on here, and use Gtechniq crystal serum ultra (9 year guarantee) and XPEL PPF (I keep hearing recommendations that it’s the best). They will also do the wheels and glass, bellows and interior for £1825+VAT so I think I’ve plumped for them. I got a good feeling about Graham Frawley when we spoke.

https://www.revolutionwraps.co.uk/ they are a company in Louth..Lincs

2021 VW California PPF kit

Bonnet, Wings & Mirrors
Bumper & Headlights £1231.00

A Pillar & Roof Front £180.00

Luggage Strip £98.00 or Free if ordered with above.

Full Xpel Fusion PPF & Paint 5 year Ceramic Coating £385.00

they do a 6 year ceramic coating which is effectively another layer but it’s twice the price and the guy said it’s not worth the extra

I am told by a guy how used to do this sort of thing but has closed his business due to COVID that Xperia Fusion is one of the best products so we shall see

Thanks Jim, I left the wood floor option as I’m going for full carpet but have a feeling I should have kept that option on my list. Although the club shop has sold out of Brandrup carpet!! I’ll post some more pics next week. When do u collect yours?

Looking forward to seeing black with teresina wheels, I’m sure that’s a great combo. What wildlife do you photograph Jim? Do you have a website? One of my school mates does a lot of wildlife photography, and now teaches people how to photograph the northern lights in Sweden

I was speaking to a company who supply the “conversion“ market recently

the op said that VW have written to all dealers, agents and companies to cancel allocations of 7000 vehicles !

The OP intermated this specifically related to orders / allocations already placed by dealers. I.e allocations and existing orders will be / have been cancelled With immediate effect.

The OP says that VW are currently struggling due to shortages of parts caused by various factors, Covid, Brexit and a delays caused by a big ship in a little canal.

I have no reason to doubt the OP, I have no vested interest in the story , however this would concur with lots of people’s experience.

the OP said this issue would affect the supply of new vehicles, particularly to conversion companies, effectively closing them down!

the Op went on to say that one conversion company, who take a significant allocation from VW has had its entire allocation of VW T6.1 cancelled. Effectively putting the converter out of business as far as newly converted vehicles !

in the words of the OP the owner of one conversion business went home and had a melt down !

I post this not to alarm people, although I do understand that it may raise concerns for many, i post this as third party info into the current situation with delays and a possible reason why so many are waiting extended periods of time for their new orders to be delivered as it appears VW are having to take drastic measure to ensure they can continue supply of transporter based vehicles.

IMO VW have a vested interest in delivering its premium commercial vehicle product (Cali) over supply of other transporter based vehicles, particularly those to converters who take some of VW market share In the Camper market. VW will naturally do what it needs to protect its own vested interests. I can only conclude that VW are acting out of desperation to ensure vehicle production can continue albeit at a reduced capacity.

please do not shoot the messenger and I will not disclose the OP’s identity / company ( please don’t ask ) suffice to say the third party knew this would affect their companies revenue as a supplier to the conversion trade.

I post this merely to try and highlight a potential issues relayed to me by a third party who has no reason to make such a story up.

At 65,000 units sold in the EU per annum ( about 6 weeks of supply) only a small percentage reduction so need for anyone to go out of business I wouldn’t have thought. We knew they pushed all all non customer orders to clear the backlog so I don’t see this as a game changer.

Agreed, and I didn’t post it as a game changer, it was an explanation for the delays That so many are experiencing

VW on the other hand would not have taken the decision to cancel orders and allocations unless there was a clear issue Particularly as the looss of group revenue as a result would be IRO 210 million pounds loss of revenue (taking an average cost of each unit at a cursory £30k per unit ) that loss is for one production line !

a six week hiatus for a global supply chain is massive and if you are a converter have your entire allocation pulled it could be catastrophic as your revenue stream has just disappeared for a significant period of time with no advance warning or ability to plan Parts labour and resources

as I say I was merely highlighting the issues in response to the raft (107 pages) of posts regarding issues VW currently are experiencing in a challenging environment.

I wish everyone well with delivery of your order, but obviously manufacturers are taking drastic measures to try and cope with various factors that are obviously affecting their ability to deliver product
