New Zealand campervan hire advice please...... anyone done it 2023 to 2024?

Hi Team, has anyone hired a van in the last two years in NZ? We are looking into doing this in March/April this year. Yes of course I am researching in as many places as I can but as this club is full of like minded souls I thought I would see what advice I might get here :thumb

we hired one 2 years ago picked one up near Auckland airport hired from Apollo,it was a little tired but adequate we travelled upto teranga nice beaches just remember you get charged a additional environmental tax per kilometre driven .we’re actually going back to no next week to visit my son but decided not to hire a camper using airbnb this time

Not in the last two years but in January 2020. Maui from Christchurch for three weeks - again a bit tired, tyres very near limit - mechanically it was in working condition apart from a dodgy sliding door. Screen wash reservoir was empty.

We have just started to research a NZ campervan trip, because our daughter has been working out there since June 2024. Having done an excellent Canada month-long package tour organised via CAMC this year, we started researching on their website... and you can start to see the van hire companies they use. One of these is Apollo Campervan hire. We are more likely to break down the package and sort flight/hotel/campervan hire separately this time just to reduce overall costs. (CAMC worldwide tours were excellent however) I can't recommend anything because I'm only in the research phase, but I'll be glad to follow and contribute to this thread as plans develop.

We hired a brand new Toyota van from Jucy in Jan 2020. Pick up at Auckland took about 3 hours (very busy) but no issues with van itself - apart from scraping it down a low wall in a car park (and did not take the optional damage.waiver ). Got all the way up to Cape Reinga which was absolutely stunning, along with Bay of Islands.
