Evening,

Just pricing up an Ocean on the configuration tool, I want a rear camera but don't want the towbar, it keeps insisting the two options must be selected, is there a way around this?

Thank you in advance

The rear camera is standard. You don’t need to select anything extra ( assuming uk ocean)

It's probably because your speccing "trailer assist", it's an aid for helping you reversing with a trailer. And to tow a trailer obviously you need a tow bar ;) Try looking for just the reverse camera option.

Peter84 there is no stand alone option for rear camera.
andyinluton if that is correct then happy days

VW has a way of selling stuff. For example the safety vest goes on as: "Warning triangle, first aid kit and safety vest." But if you dig a bit deeper you discover selecting this option deletes the standard "Warning triangle and first aid kit."

So at the end of the day they're selling you a vest for 100 quid or so.

That confused me too when ordering. I was only 100% sure it came as standard when we picked up the van. The other option I was sure we were not getting, was heated seats. But we got them!

Have to say a little disappointed with the quality of the rear camera picture, compared to my previous vehicle, I would say it’s SD rather than HD.

Not sure if this is down to the camera or the resolution of the screen.

Only had one other experience of a reversing camera, on a hired Peugeot 8008 in France, and that camera was about the same as the Cali. We can see all the detail we need to when reversing, and the guide lines are pretty accurate.

Separate point, a bit off topic, does anyone use the auto park function, and how well does it work? We’ve chickened out so far!

No issues here with the reversing camera - happy with the screen and quality. Our Tiguan has 360 reversing cameras, as did my dozens of company Nissans before that, which is excellent and would make a massive difference on the Cali.

Ref auto park. Never bothered. Again, have had on loads of cars. It’s in the Tiggy, but never bothered. Had it on a Golf before that and never really worked properly, ending up taking longer to use than to do it yourself as it tried to parallel park while doing several dozen forward and back shunts..

For the Nissans I remember we had to demo it to PR types on car launches, and again, while it worked ok, never worked amazing. The biggest challenge was always the interface, which was designed by engineers and not by UX experts - so what made perfect sense to them on screen made none to the rest of us.

A bit like heat immediately and heat continuously I suppose ;)

Don’t know what your previous vehicle was but camera on T6.1 i have is big improvement over camera in T6 i had before. Don’t know if camera quality depends on other options in the vehicle maybe. For me it looks like HD on 9.2 inch touchscreen.

Maybe the camera lens needs cleaning?

Thats a very good point. The GC uses the same camera but it seems to stay a lot cleaner longer, its mounted on the back edge of a much higher roof.

Mercedes are a step better still with a cover that only opens when car is put in reverse.

It tends to works excellently when parallel parking, but I've never had it work when perpendicular parking (rear bumper to kerb). I still get a kick out of the automated steering, easy to please that I am. I find perpendicular parking very easy with the excellent reversing camera and its lines, so I have stopped trying to use auto-park in those circumstances as it has always just given up during the manoeuvre. If I see a likely parallel parking space I can't resist pressing the button and putting my indicator on though. If nothing else its a good guide to whether the space is big enough for a Cali.
