Parking Heater question

No mention in that video at all.
Radio panel. TICK BOX SUPPLEMENTRY HEATER, AT ALL.
ALSO NO MENTION OF AUXILLARY COOLANT HRATER.

That video only applies auxillary air heater.
No were near full explanation of complete an full system

49 seconds in… explains the coolant/engine heater.

No mention TICK BOX OPTION ,Within radio console within vehicle settings , under supplementry heater , to actually turn coolant heater on or off .
No mention it defrosts windscreen as per manual .
I will look now thanks

I definitely have 2 heaters in my Cali (2024). Eberspacher for the parking heater and Webasto for the engine heater (which kicks in to help heat the engine when temps drop below 7 or 5 deg C). It is detailed on a sticker on the drivers side door pillar.
Correct this is the same as mine.

The coolant heater heats the vehicle coolant before sufficient heat is generated through engine combustion process to heat the coolant sufficiently to melt ice, etc. As far as I am aware there is no selection over this, it is used when temperatures demand its operation. Any air warmed by this process comes from the dash/windscreen vents as selected and any relevant rear vents at headlining level, potentially also C pillar lower depending on vehicle.

The parking heater is independent (physical separation apart from wiring and shared main diesel tank as fuel source) of the coolant heater. The parking heater feeds heated air into the cabin via vents in B pillar.

Ventilation just runs the fans with no heating / cooling applied to the air at all. Think of it like opening a window, just letting air from outside in, just forced in with the fans. Really just helps with a stuffy vehicle. This is common across most vehicles with any remote “ventilation” options. If the outside air is heated/cooled in any way then it is normally referred to as cabin (pre-)conditioning or similar.

As a factory installed extra cost option, the standard coolant heater present in all VW vans to lower emissions can be equipped with controls which allow it to be either turned on and off manually, or programmed with a timer to preheat the engine coolant and the interior, so no need for driver or key in the ignition. It can also be switched between heat and ventilation mode. The standard coolant heater electricals run off the engine battery, as most work vans don’t have leisure batteries, but this option changes that to the leisure battery, which I have confirmed with a voltage meter. Work vans can only select this option if they also install a leisure battery. I have this option in my Beach, in addition to the air parking heater. The interior vents will function in the mode they were left in when parked, so for example I leave mine in max defrost mode. When the programmed time arrives the engine is preheated and the interior is heated and defrosted. I can also turn the coolant heater on manually on long high mountain descents in winter when the engine temperature can drop enough to affect the interior heat, and bring the engine quickly back up to temperature. Part of the confusion may come from the the fact that, while this is a factory installed option, and covered in the owner’s manual, I’m not certain that it is available to UK owners (my van was originally a dealer demonstration vehicle in Germany, with nearly all available optional equipment to show to potential customers).

As a courtesy to Forum members, I would request that anyone posting a response to this message be certain that they have fully read and understood this information before posting.

@mat_richardson: Have you checked the modality settings in the heater section of the overhead CU?
My Swiss model has a specific setting for the (Wabasto) Coolant Heater in the overhead CU, separate from the Air Heater. I don't know what the exact wording will be on an UK model as mine's in German.

In this modality, when I engage the Immediate Heating function via the remote, it fires up the Wabasto heater only and blows hot air onto the windshield. It's more efficient than the Air Heater to remove a heavy accumulation of ice in winter because it blows directly on the windshield and will also warm the cab.

I am not aware if the cold climate version such as this method is on UK version vehicles. I certainly haven’t made any verification with volt meters

It isn't. The Webasto is automatic at 5c or below and only heats engine coolant. It also only works with Engine running.
There is a 3rd party kit to give it this capability.

According to the UK 6.1 catalog, the programable coolant option was available on UK Transporters but not Californias.Screen Shot 2024-11-12 at 11.38.03 AM.pngScreen Shot 2024-11-12 at 11.53.57 AM.png Those who look carefully at the Beach option will notice that it's missing the word "coolant" which appears in the Transporter option.
