Plywood visible in gap between cupboards above rear doors

Has anyone noticed this before? I'm wondering if it's the result of a VW dealer rear break light replacement! The gap on the right is worse.
Is it missing some kind of internal white sleeve to hide the plywood carcass?

Thanks Gordon, has your cupboard been taken apart by VW to fix the brake light? I can see the screws have been undone inside the cupboard at some point.

Yes. Brakelight done a couple of years ago. Like you I first noticed after that work was done probably because I was looking closely at things. I reached out to a fellow GC owner at the time to check if it was as a result of the work but theirs was identical even though they had not had the brake light resealed.

I've just been to look at mine - I've never noticed before that you can see the ply in the join. Mine hasn't been taken apart for brake light fitting - and it might just be the photo, but I think my factory fit is better than the dealer fit.
