I have a 22 plate Ocean, has anyone experienced an issue with the roof intermittently not closing? It’s happened to me on 4 separate occasions all at different points eg front near side, front off side, end to end near side. It’s caused a kink on one side of the roof plus damaged the bellows.

There is no common factor to when this happens and as it’s intermittent it’s difficult for the dealer to replicate; due to this the dealers position is that it can only be classified as misuse which it most certainly isn’t!

I’m really unhappy with the position this puts me in, it would be really good to hear from anyone with a similar experience and how it’s been resolved.

I have been having problems with the roof on my 2005 California which have got really bad this summer and I was told it must be the hydraulic struts. New ones have just been fitted ( £385 each!!!) and still going down unevenly so it takes 20/30 minutes going up and down to close properly. i am now getting a diagnostics test to pinpoint the problem hopefully as I am told it must be the control box behind the screen.which will probably cost a fortune too., as only VW Bristol have the diagnostic capabilities in my area. I am planning to sell as it's costing so much to run but have to do this or it's unsaleable. not a happy bunny

Dealer will fix any problem they think they can get money back from warranty on, and avoid anything they think will get knocked back. In this case this specific dealer clearly thinks the latter. If I was you I would move away from butting heads with a dealer and move to customer service at VW, who can then direct the dealer.

As far as I’m aware a diagnostic via the OBD port won’t show any faults with the camping side of the van. Control panel diagnostics and associated fault codes are via the panel itself. No need to pay anyone to do the following…..
When Control Panel is On - Press and Hold Bottom R button and press Control Knob fora few seconds. A " New " hidden Menu is displayed. Scroll to " Volkswagen " and " Diagnostics " . Any Error codes shown?
The code is a four digit display.

1 = 1 = Pop-up roof

2 = 2 = Plumbing Heating

3 = 3 = Cool box Cooler

4 = 4 = Sewage wastewater

5 = 5 = Fresh water fresh water

6 = 6 = Outside temperature outside temperature

7 = 7 = Battery

It might be worth a trip to Breeze in Poole or try Kernow, they seem to know their stuff as far as Californias
