Hello. I am going to look at 2017 beach this morning, to buy. My first camper van. What age is 'early' T6?.
And why, if VW are such a rubbish company, are their campervans so desired?
Should I rethink investing 44k into this van?

£44,000 for an 18 month old Beach seems a bit steep.

Ours cost just £1077 more than that brand new in March 2017, with a range of expensive options including parking heater, climatronic, discover media and LED headlights, extended warranty and four services.

Hello,
I am a solo camper, in love with camping but feel the freedom of a campervan calling.
I hired a T6 highline conversion(2016) for a week and was in second heaven.
After much research, and stumbling acoss this site, I am, in 30 mins on my way to look a a cali. and am really quite scared.

It is still under warranty, but a private sale, so I phoned my local VW dealer to ask if they would honor the warranty and got no reassurance. They said they would look at it after I had bought the van, is this right?

I have downloaded the checklist.

I have read loads of posts, the roof issue seems to be a bit of a problem on such an expensive item. I have an old Honda CR-V at the moment and it is such an amazing workhorse with no issues, was hoping to find the same quality from VW. Am I being unrealistic?

I would value all comments, possitive and negative, so that I am not naively going into something I will regret.

thank you for reading

I'd have thought the warranty was linked to the vehicle, not the owner. And if it's less than 3 years should be covered by the current roof recall...

I don't think VW are a rubbish company.

For such a complex vehicle very little goes wrong.

The roof issue has banged on forever, and a degree of frustration has crept in with some members, but it doesn't bother me. It is not structural, Cosmetic, shouldn't be there but if it is doesn't stop the camper doing what it should do and delivering the great experience. I have been fortunate. I've not had it.

They are eye-wateringly expensive to buy but not to own as when you come to sell or p-ex it the residuals are the best anywhere.

I have had two in five years, over 400 nights of living in it. the list of major faults I have had in that time has been zero. The number of trips back to the dealer to have something rectified can be counted on the fingers of one hand.... although admittedly I often get bits fixed when it is in for other things such as a service. (I've just had the kitchen tap and front blinds fixed. They both worked, but not as well as they should do. Had it done whilst the vehicle was in for an oil change).

Who is the dealer you are talking to and can you publish the spec of the vehicle, listing options and extra's added?

Welcome Autumn
Hope you had a great testing. As long as you aren‘t in a hurry - check and test other Californias until you find the one your 101% sure.
But as above: I am quite sure you won‘t regret getting one!

Hi Autumn, well done and welcome to the site, I am new to the club myself and just learning of the great feeling that driving a VW California gives you, they make you smile every trip....even to the supermarket.!
I did miss one wave near Ashby De La Zouch, purely down to trying to "take in" the functions that these great vehicles offer, Must be more alert in future.! SD

Well done. Enjoyed reading of your progress. I don’t believe you’ll regret your decision, in fact I suspect it’ll be one of the best you’ve made.
