RADIO SAT NAV INTERFERENCE

My 2009 2.5 174 Cali has a standard issue VW Sat Nav / radio / 6 disc CD unit. Yesterday I turned on the radio and there was a very loud "interference" noise from the speakers which drowns out any music or speech. All of the functions work, but there is this god awful noise. The "interference" is present when the unit is switched on - running the engine, reving the engine, not running the engine makes no difference. Any thoughts?

If you have not done anything to the van between the last time you switched on the radio and now, then the radio itself has developed a fault.

It can probably be repaired very easily and cheaply by a electronics repair company, but will need to be removed from the van to do so.

Do a search and see if there is a company local to you.

Before rushing to get it repaired .
1. Have you driven the vehicle to another locality and do you still have the noise?
If no noise then probably something local is causing interference.
2. These systems are really mini computers. Your handbook should say how to do a reset/reboot of the software.
3. Have you by any chance got aftermarket LED DRL lights fitted? If so the control unit can break down, often cheap units, and cause interference after about 3-6 months.

Thanks - will try reset. The van is standard. Problem continues in all locations.

No joy - CEN Nottingham have tested + £36.50 and advised that a repair may be more than a new unit. Looking at a Kenwood 406 DPX DAB (£320 fitted etc etc) and not bother with an integrated Sat Nav'
