Rear Speaker Covers

Hi,

As a result of the rear overhead cupboard opening whilst on a very rough road one of my cloth speaker grills has been damaged. Can anyone tell me how to remove the grill so that I can replace the cloth. Is it screwed on from inside the speaker enclosure, plastic lugs or something else?

Cheers

Nigel

For future reference, the external grills are attached by the same screws that hold the speakers in place, (screws go through speaker mount and into the grills). Internal speaker cover has to me removed as described in previous posts.

I often wonder if it would be possible to fit the speakers somewhere else, and remove that overhead cupboard which is fairly useless and just a nuisance when I want sit up in bed.
Has anyone done this?

Hi Nigel
We have the same problem with an hole to the fabric of the external rear speaker grille .
Does anyone know the part number or where to get an alternative grille cover to fit please.

7H7035405 left (kitchen side)
7H7035406 right (door side)
€14!
From memory VW we’re going to charge close to £150 to replace that to fix a damaged fabric. I declined.
I think it’s a design flaw actually, to have (pointless?) fabric in the rear boot area.

Thanks for replies. Ordered the right side grill as mentioned by Pauli … £18.72 from vw. Result. Thank you

You can always put your rear speakers somewhere else and remove the overhead cupboard.
You can get rid of it by unscrewing the whole cupboard.
But then you will have to rewire the speakers and find a fitting place to put the speakers.
But as I don't sleep downstairs all that often, I really don't mind, and if I do, I mostly sleep with my head to the front of the van.
