Hi all.

Planning our first trip to France for the summer hols.

Don't want to travel too far South this time.
Thinking of Bordeaux but open to suggestions.

Family of 4, 2 kids age 4 and 6. We are after a site close to the sea. Want peaceful family vibe only camp site.

You guys must know loads.......( hope )

Thanks...

I can recommed the Yelloh! Campsite Le Grands Pins in Lacanau Ocean.

There is a pretty nice naturist camping. Euronat Centre naturiste.

We've been to Hourtin Plage and have kids (8 & 5). Going again this year. It a short walk to the beach, 10 mins drive to a huge lake (which is great for kids) and great for cycle tracks. It's quite a large site though and not necessarily the quietest - but does have great swimming pool facilities on site for the kids.

Hi all.

We thought we didn't want to go too far south on our first trip but regretted it as the weather was foul and the coastline too similar to Cornwall which we like but why not just go to Cornwall !! So my recommendation would be go south ,great roads down their ,stop half way in Beune at the municipal campsite and then 2nd day arrive at port grimaud on the bay of st tropez late lunch and stay at camping la plage or one of the others on the coast road and camp on or near the beach ,great for children and guaranteed good weather on the Mediterranean ,you would also like I'm sure eucalyptus campsite at pampleonne beach just outside st tropez smaller but very friendly and only 100 yards too the most fantastic beach .. Just my suggestion :thumb

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and ideas. Much appreciated. Will research these.

If you are down that way consider Ile de Oleron - island is connected by bridge to the mainland. very good Oysters and Muscles and loads of campsites and beaches.

We used these campsites while in that part of France - worth a look, but there will be loads more - we were restricted as we went out of season:

Kids will love the giant sand dune in Dune du Pilat (near Arcachon)
i was just about to suggest le ile

We stayed last year for a few days at the Camping Club d'Archachon. It was August. It was very busy. The plot sizes were pretty small but it is well positioned. The roads were very busy anywhere near the coast so we changed plans and went inland and stayed at some fab places.
