Hi I'm aware there is a specific 'technical thread", but I just wanted to reach as many people as I could. I'm considering having my 2015 140BHP DSG remapped. The main reason for doing this is to increase fuel economy. I have been told by one dealer (not VW obviously) that they could do a remap which would increase the BHP to 180 and improve my fuel economy by 20% (cost £365) However Pendle Performance (cost £427, mentioned in some threads), stated that yes the BHP could be increased, but that it was IMPOSSIBLE to quote an improved fuel economy %, due to varying driving styles. Please help (in simplistic language), has anyone undergone a remap and what are the results? P.S. I use my vehicle every day, do about 15,000 miles / year + approx 29 mpg.
 
How long do you intend to keep the Cali?
Assuming a mythical 20% fuel saving the first year would be recouping the cost with some profit gain.
 
I’d say 20% is going a bit far maybe 10%. I would go with a Pendle remap, iv had many of my VWs remapped and Pendle was the better in the way of smoother power delivery and feel but more money is the negative
 
There are many many previous threads on this one, and every other VW van forum. It transformed my previous T5 conversion & I will get round to taking my T6 150 Beach to Pendle HQ eventually - I am slightly concerned about adding more oomph as the (smaller version) brakes aren't all that good in the first place.

I don't think improved MPG is a big part of it - the theory gets overtaken by the reality & few if any have the necessary discipline / self-restraint.
 
My friend had his 204 T6 remapped at Pendle. Very happy with the results - increased power, massively improved torque and better economy. Highly recommended.
 
Not for a Cali but I've been looking at these recently, have followed them on Facebook for years and because its not a direct ECU modification I doesn't hurt warranties as it can be removed instantly.

Might be worth looking at as an alternative, havent used them myself yet but im tempted.
 
I personally wouldn’t touch Pendle...
Over-rated by the sheep brigade. Have a google for Oscarli.
Otherwise Revo have been pretty good for years and years.

Tell us more about you aversion towards Pendleton, have you used them , had a bad experience?? Do share .....

I am not a mechanic or a specialist in this area (and maybe a bit too innocent) but I thought that VW did put a lot of testing and experimenting into the engine development. The outcome is to get the best and most reliable engine for the best price of course.

Doesn't the change of the electronics of the engine in order to improve power or fuel consumption not interfere with the engines range of specifications? In other words on the long run won't it be that reliable any more?

I have the 150 HP version which I was sceptical when we bought the van (it was a demo model). I thought that the 2L 150 HP diesel engine is too small for the heavy van. But I must say that so far I can't complain. I accept that the van is no race horse and driving is a bit more on the "relaxed side". What I expect (and hope for) is that the engine will last at least 300k km (which will see me out :)).

It’s been done to death on some other forums and I’m not getting into another slanging match.
Quick search should find them. We had a good argument about him deleting dpfs many moons ago and him categorically saying they would never find his delete, but at the same time wouldn’t cover his work if they did...?
I feel sorry for people who were dupped by some of his claims.
Make your own decisions, but I wouldn’t use him period...!!!

The engines are tuned to different country requirements and are sometimes the same engine with different outputs . mine was remapped from 140 to 185 which is according to the remapper only 80% of its full capability they do this to not put overdue strain on the engine mine has been fine pulls like a train and returns 44 mpg on a run at 75mph

I had a ride in a 102 mapped to 160-170 on the 5 speed manual holy-moly, like a different van!

I’m sure mapping a 102 must make a massive difference Matt.

We use a DT Tuning unit on our Yeti which transforms the performance. Faster, smoother, better economy debatable. There's no such thing as a free lunch so what happens is that you end up using the extra performance. possibly quite unwittingly, and that evens out any gain in mpg. If you can manage to not use the extra performance then yes you will see better mpg. However if that is the main purpose for fitting a remap then you may not save much taking into account the remap cost. For us performance was the issue, not mpg.

I was recommended the guy he is based on a farm has a full rolling road etc, does full diagnostic to check health of engine before any work is done and a carbon clean prior I believe. I have a 114 so Im looking forward to getting it done. I think it was about £40 a year more on insurance but 160-170bhp instead.

I've not used him yet but the guys whose van was done said he gets close to 700 miles from a tank now up from 575 he got before (575 is about what I get) and performance was night and day. www.mpgremaps.co.uk

I would guess the drive ability of a mapped 114 is gonna be massive.
 
Yeah the 114 is actually pretty good around town and on the motorway but there is a really poor dead spot between 40 and 50mph which is of course getting onto motorway and dual carriageway type speeds. I also find its this portion where you're giving it more throttle for longer to get on safely that spoils the fuel consumption most.

I remember my old 140bhp didn’t have much left going up steep hills around 65-80. Bit of a flat spot.
Where as my old 130 5 pot T5 used to accelerate up those gradients...???
Can’t believe the 140 had more power than the previous generation, even though Volkswagen claimed it did...
