How easy or not is it to remove the bed extension and how much extra room would that free up between the front and rear seats? Ocean 6.1
Not got the Cali yet and wondering if it would be worth doing in the summer months if the two of us slept up top.

I was testing that recently…if you remove the bed extension AND then unscrew the supports it looks like you’d get at least 10” more than at the rearmost position without removing the supports. I didn’t take the supports off but they are held by Allen key bolts inside the cupboard.

See video about 5 minute mark for demo of the extension removal - it’s pretty easy

Ours is an Ocean. Don't know if that may be different or not.
It’s worth looking back through the back catalogue of the California Chris you tube channel, and also CampervanTime as both did a lot of videos about all the key parts of living with an Ocean. To the extent that when ours arrived last year it felt so familiar and like we knew everything we needed to know. Chris does do one where he takes the rear bed board out of an Ocean - have never bothered doing it ourselves but it looks easy to do. Personally there is plenty of space in the back already and not sure would want to sit on the rear bench any further back, but that’s the beauty of these vehicles, there are plenty of options and it’s fun trying it all out - we all use them slightly differently.

I’ve just taken the bed extension out of ours and built a box about 150mm smaller to go in its place. We haven’t tried it yet but the idea is that we can sleep downstairs and still have enough room to have a portaloo out at night.
The bed extension comes out relatively easily but it is heavy and I wouldn’t want to be constantly moving it in and out.
