I’ve searched through the forums and can’t see to find the answer to this question as some old links seems to have expired.

Has anyone managed to remove the RNR bed in a T6 and if so it is simply a matter of removing the tops of the rails and sliding seat up, tipping back and then removing. Or does it require removing bolts under the van?

Also is it only the short bits at top of rails that can be removed or can the whole rail come out?

Thanks

This is what it tells me online which seems more complicated than I want:
To remove a VW California rock and roll bed, first disconnect all electrical components, as the bed contains wiring for lights and other systems. Next, remove the bed frame itself by unbolting it from the chassis. This will likely require a person inside the van to hold the bolts and a person underneath to remove the nuts, possibly after taking off the rear bumper and heat shields for better access.

Yes. no bolts under van. It's a matter of getting it into position. The feet will pop out of the gap in your picture.

Beware it's heavy!

Brilliant. Thanks. Yes I plan to enlist a few strong men to help out!

As a follow up does the entire silver part of the rail come out or only the section as the top? Just wondering if I can give the whole track a good clean

I’m afraid your On-Line instructions are a load of rubbish.

There are No electrical connections to the bench seat.
There are No bolts securing the seat to the floor.

Have you checked your Handbook?

I did but then got terrified by what I found online. Just figured I would ask here as there is bound to have been someone who’s removed the bed on this forum.

This might help , BUT you do not need to unbolt the drivers seat.

You should also remove the Stop in the rail nearest the kitchen. Use a a screw driver into the rail and slide forward and backwards to locate. Slacken stop off, a large screw slot on top and slide it forward and remove . You can replace after if you want.

Can I be rude and ask you why you are removing them. Are you proposing to change them for an alternative?

Helpful post by @HectorPascal

Hopefully you've managed it by now but it is a case of moving the front seats as far forward as they can go. Removing the stop in the channel nearest the cooker, then positioning the bench so that the feet will lift out of the channels through the cut-outs in the rail. I did it with a mate of mine, both in our 60s but still reasonably strong. The missus couldn't even move it.
In answer to Celia Vanchez; I wanted to get two pushbikes inside the van for secutiry reasons.

Not rude at all. I struggle with the carpets constantly getting muddy from me and 2 dogs. So I’m removing that and having linoleum laid. The carpet fitter will have a much easier time if the bed is not there and he can lay one continuous strip through the van with cut outs for the rails of course.yea

I’ve manage it out thanks to some strong mates. It is a pretty simple job once you know how. And if you can get 4 people to lift it out it’s not bad at all
