Roof box

Hi, I was thinking of fitting rails for my roof box, but how do people access this? Do you need to carry a ladder? Also can you still elevate the roof with stuff on top? I have 2 kayaks too but I'm guessing they may be too heavy. Thanks.

Ah, I see this has been moved to the right forum... Sorry, I didn't know about this one, and have now seen all the answers I need.
