Roof corrosion

Hi I have at last managed to get my Cali on the list to be done this year - after being on the list since 2012 and them saying again and again they had lost my details
At one time they were offering to loan another Cali while it was being fixed
Can those of you who have had your roof fixed let me know if you were offered a Cali or a car or nothing? Thanks

Sinclair Cardiff gave me brand new Transporter Combi for the duration (about 6 weeks).

Motorsol in Barcelona gave me a nearly new Caravelle (Shuttle in the UK) for 4 weeks. I did have to delay the repair for one month for it to be available, but my roof repair was originally scheduled one month after I brought it in for the first consultation on the problem. I cringe every time I hear the years of waiting in the UK.

T6 Beach for me but insisting on a cali or similar did mean I didn’t get the 1st available slot for the roof repair.
If it had been camping season I would have pushed for an ocean.

I was given a brand new Cali, delivery miles only. Drove home, double checked the liability if I damaged it and drove straight back to dealer. Took 5 days and we had the other car anyway.

I was given a new Caddy and someone crashed into
it whilst parked up. Had to be towed away.
Vw dealer response was, its okay just sign here to say that
you gave it back.

We had our t5 (2012) repair done back around 2014. VW supplied a brand new Cali for the repair period. Full cover by their policy.

Imo , you are worring about the wrong thing , a replacement car ?
Better worry about how you will your Cali back in socallled ”repaired state” ,we have seen a lot of complaints about how the roof repair work was done.....
if you could chose the best repairshop knowing you get your Cali back in pristine state you are better of wakling back home instead driving home with a replacement verhicle .

You're right, it's the quality of the repair job that you're going to get that is of prime importance, but how you establish the quality of the work of the bodyshop prior to your repair I don't know.
Perhaps the best way is to establish your options, then posted on the forum for recommendations from anyone who may have had theirs done there.
We were lucky enough to be about the first to have the corrosion repaired, back in the old days when VW did the job properly, replacing the front aluminium casting completely. This was done by AB Crush in Canterbury, who I think have now given up do this repair for VW .This was before they introduced what I would turn as the "Crap Cap" plastic cover, which seems to have given so many people grief.

Same on ours - just so glad that we were lucky that we had the repair then rather than now. No not sure sadly about work being done now @jeannie. I would take loads of good quality images and video of the van prior to repair. Including the condition of the inside roof lining etc.

I've always been baffled how it been acceptable to stick a piece of plastic over the corrosion .I've always thought it should be VW's to liability to repair a vehicle back to its original build quality.

On picking up my Cali after the current repair process , I certainly would go over it with a fine tooth comb, making sure there were no alignment problems etc.

Took my 2014 SE to VW York 2 weeks ago and it’s booked into specialist body shop 5th May, checked with body shop and it’s not a bodge job or cover, can’t fault VW and just hope it comes back perfect, trust me they will know if it’s not!

Yes I was made aware of the chance of a botch job by the company that was due to fixi it a few years back but who decided to no longer take on the jobs as Vw changed their ‘expectation’ of the Reoair. Not yet been advised who will actually be undertaking the repair so will persue to try and find a name and maybe chat to them
Anyone in the forum had their repair via SMG Cowfold? I know they may be on the forum themselves actually and may be able to provide some reassurance ? Thanks all
