Roof entry pull across blind opening itself

Am getting a bit irritated by the pull across roof entry blind is opening itself gradually. Believe its general vibrations of driving and I dont drive along many really bumpy roads.

Anybody else have this problem or suggestions ?
Dealer gave it the once over and said nothing obviously wrong

Mine does sometimes work its way open slightly if i don't make sure the bellows are folded correctly and the shutter does sort of clip closed ...

This is a very common problem ours does it too

A simple solution is to wedge something in the gap like a piece of credit card - A bit of a bodge I know but it does work

My van does the same thing - has done for the last year and a half I've owned it. I like to think of it as a quirky undocumented feature...keeps my left arm occupied on those long drives.

It's even worse with an iso-top fitted. There's much more to fall down when that damned slide opens. About as robust a design as the damned drinks holder which looks clever and stows away well but when full of two drinks wobbles like hell under the same road conditions that loosens off the roof slide.

At one point I couldn't get the thing to open at all. Now it opens by itself!
I use a wedge - still trying to work out something tidy and permanent. :!:

This is a common Cali fault.

My solution was to stick a 5 cm strip of loop tape (hairy side of velcro tape) in the centre on the bottom of the opening, level with the blind handle.

This helps the blind lock and it no longer comes open.

Yeah same with ours which was an ex demo bought from Vw.
They'd already done this fix to ours when we bought it and have never had any problems with it.

I should have known I wasn't alone on this one. Also it doesn't always want to slide in under the bed roof and you get this feel of the plastic jamming in the tracks.

We should make up a list of all the common faults of the interior and camping aspects of the Cali, say once the same fault has manifested itself on five different vehicles ? On second thoughts might not do the much good for the resale value Or :idea: perhaps VW might recall all T5 Californias :rofl

You'll need to pull the blind out of its hole completely when the bed is raised.
Basically the sections of the blind run out of alignment on the sides causing it to jam.
Once you've got it out tap them back into alignment and put the blind back in. Its a 5 minute fix.
Ours used to drive me mad but has been fine since i did this.

Mine has been replaced twice, runners and shutter and its started opening again even on M-way

Same issue for us and our solution is to put small tabs of velcro on both surfaces. This has worked fine ever since and never opens (fix done 18 months ago).

Same as mine also lots of wind noise over 50mph and rattle over bumps from the roof
VW are putting on a new roof to solve these problems ant body else had problem like that? :crazy

I had the same problem. Bought self adhesive magnetic strips from Ebay for a couple of quid. Five minute fix and no sign of opening for six months.

I've gone the loop & hook velcro strip route as well and it works fine. Just two thin strips of each about an inch long either side of the centre line. If this doesn't hold up long term I will use a longer strip. My only concern is that it ever warms up in England or we go somewhere with a normal climate the velcro fixing glue might detach as we pull the blind back.

+1 for Velcro, tried the magnetic strip - it reduced the occurrence but didn't solve it - the Velcro did the trick!

Oddly enough after fitting the iso-top and it still continuing to open, it has now stopped! It opens about .5 cm then remain partially opened for ever. This is even in the cold of the winter outer hebrides and the heat of the summer in portugal.
A ridulously expensive solution, though

If this is your only problem I would advise you live with it or fix it yourself as advised by others on this subject.
The hassle involved of dropping off and collecting vehicle, time spent without vehicle, the possibility of the problem not being resolved and possibly even more damage being done to other parts of the vehicle whilst works are being carried out. I speak from experience of this happening to me :censor
