Rubber Winter Mats

Bought the VW ones from the Club shop. Quick question - they seem quite heavy and well fitting on their own, but come with a set of screw in fasteners. Do people screw them into the floor as per the instructions or just leave them loose fitting? The VW instructions suggest instant death by means of a trapped accelerator if not fastened.

I try to avoid "loose" mats for the reasons that are obvious. Yes, they can impede pedal operation if they move about.
I have the monster mats but they have a clip system no "screw in fasteners".

I bought the monster mats from the dealers. Just put them over the original VW ones. Never moved except for cleaning. (Your choice)

I live right on the edge since getting my 1st car in the early 1980s have never had rubber mats that are fixed.

VW's advice is probably because they are aware that builders/tradesmans boots live in the pedal box and they can move anything!
