Schengen travel post-Brexit

So I’ve been planning a long slow European journey, Amarillo-style, once Covid19 restrictions have been lifted. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal etc.

But having read the EU rules on foreigners including UK citizens in Europe, it looks like we will be restricted to a 90 day tour and then no more travel in the schengen zone for the following 3 months. Have I read this wrong?

I think that is the default position from January 2021. However, I'd be very surprised if something is not sorted out for those on an extended tour by January 2021.

An aside issue that you may have taken into your planing.

Most Vehicle Insurers have a limit of 90 days duration in Europe. Safeguard do but a return to UK resets the 90 day counter. This was also the case with Aviva on my previous car Insurance. One Insurer that I had insisted that the 90 days were on an accumulated basis per year.

Some specialist Campervan/Motorhome insurers offer upto 365 days foreign cover.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club insurance offer 270 days as standard and more on an individual basis and premium increase.

We went through the Camping and Caravanning Club and had 270 days cover from 1 March 2017. We left the UK on 18 June and renewal fell due on 1 March 2018, 255 days later. CCC quoted a ridiculous price for renewal following two crashes (~£1,700 from memory). My difficulty then was to find an insurer while camping on a municipal site on the outskirts of Alexandroupolis. Insurers want original signed documents - an email copy won't do. I don't recall the solution, but eventually we got a semi-reasonable quote giving us 180 days overseas but limited to 12,000 miles. That policy expired at 12,000 miles (about 8 months later) not a year, so the semi-reasonable quote became quarter-reasonable. I should now phone them up and tell them that my two crashes are settled with no fault, and try to get a partial refund.

It just depends how high on the priority list for negotiations the UK place 'British people taking holidays of longer than 90 days in the EU', and if they are willing to swap that benefit for something, like some fishing rights or similar. (The EU won't have 'EU citizens taking holidays in Britain of more than 90 days' as their priority, before anyone asks) My guess is that it won't be a priority, and it won't be possible straight away, (like pet passports - totally not happening) although you never know. It may become a possibility in a few years I guess, once the dust has settled. At this point the UK may just offer to pay for them in one way or another. (Or set up a fee for the benefit)

It will be like this, as for Canada, I strongly suspect, for at least the first few years, maybe permanently. In other words, rather tricky after 90 days, but not impossible on a country by country basis.

Genuine question....as I’m not sure how this forum would be capable of avoiding 2/3 (no matter how sensitive?) as the conversations will touch on foreign travel, access, agreements etc...by nature that the people on here do rely on/use foreign travel, access etc....
Given the fact that the debate exploited a difference of views in UK I just think that from that point forward we’re committed to having to endure/accept/accommodate those different views...as tiresome as they are(regardless of which side of the fracture line you stand).

It's very simple. The forum exists to allow members to freely share their experiences and help other members. Occasionally we get to camp together too. Labelling half the community as "ignorent twats" does nothing to aid those goals, and can only harm the forum and should be discouraged.

I wasn’t trying to disagree/provoke you 2into1....genuinely trying to clarify.
I spent a lifetime having to meet professionally, and socialise with, people that I thought were Horrid and Disagreeable so I’ve some sympathy with you.

There was more to the post than calling a group names (26% of the population is more accurate than 52% which refers to just those eligible to vote who voted), and I don’t agree that the poster deserves a ban.

My dutch friend was due to arrive today (from work in Kuwait) and we were going to camp and an agility competition this weekend. Sadly, all that has been cancelled.
However, the good news is he will be leaving his posting a year early and returning to NL in October, plus taking early retirement. So whether it’s 30, 90, 270 days or longer, we can look forward to, and start planning for his retirement and lots of trips UK and Europe in the future.
A silver lining to the cloud, I hope...

Allegedly you called ~33,300,000 people tw@ts. I think that the allegation was overstated by ~15,900,000 people. The suggested 30 day ban would have been for personally insulting any member among those 17,410,742 people who voted remain in the EU referendum. However, as the ballot was secret, I'm unsure how anyone implementing a ban could identify which members, if any, had been insulted.

Basically because the Airlines don't intend to start passenger flights until mid-June or later.

Easyjet June15, Ryanair 40% in July, BA in July.

It is also a bit like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. However, I can understand a 14 day quarantine for anyone who has visited certain countries where coronavirus is raging, such as Brazil, within the past 14 days.
