Seat angles and door pad damage.

All the brochures we look at show the front two seats swivelled and at an angle.
Our brief Cali experience in a hire van proved that we’d like to keep the front seats at this angle but the hire van had damage on the door pads suggesting that there’s no way to ensure the seats don’t rotate when sat on.

I hope you know what I mean.

My question and concern for the arrival of our new van is.... is there a way to lock the seats at a chosen angle so not to touch the door pads?

I don't think you can lock them at an angle and you are right it could cause damage but I would also hazard a guess that most of the damage you are seeing on the hire van is caused by poor positioning and technique when swivelling then round in the first instance.

The front seats only lock facing forward or to the rear. Anywhere in between and they are not locked in position.

The problem occurs when you slam the door from outside and the seat is rotated too much. Just remember to straighten the seat slightly before you close the door.

Take your time on the first swivel of the drivers seat and remember if its a manual van put it in gear and release the hand brake.

Brochures show it like that as it looks more cosy! I sometimes don't lock the passenger one but that can be fun if you forget and lean fwd to reach the wine bottle!

Hi, The damage you’ve seen is to a hire van. You will be more careful.

Only two in our van and we tend to only swivel the passenger seat and move the drivers seat fully forward.

In ours we have brandrup
seat pocket on the back of the drivers seat with a handy holder for the iPad on the drivers seat headrest.

I have often wondered about that too. It would also be the simplest of modifications for VW to do on future vans as well. I won't hold my breath though.

Had the same with my T6 Cali 2018 now I open front door when swivelling either of the two.

I find it best not to be said in the seat when being swivelled. Disastrous for getting wine on the seats

The plastic trim is relatively cheap if you want to replace it...

My driver side has these scratches (passenger side is much easier) , but I've since learnt how to do it properly. The cali is imho full of traps that mean a hire will get damaged.

Roof, seat swivel etc.
