Service Plan

Except for the fact that everyone other than VW Finance was telling me it should be done at 12 months. The letter from detailing the service plan highlights 5 x services but makes no mention of mileage or time. You’re right though in saying that posting on the forum allowed me to vent my spleen!
Update: Just called another main VW van centre dealer and asked the question re: servicing.
Told I could book a first service at any time to suit, its my choice. Either yearly for the 5 services over 5 years or every other year over 10. They said if the vehicle isn't covering max miles then the longlife service setting can be adjusted.
I will update again on how I get on in early Jan - remains to be seen on the day eh?

20k miles is too long a service interval, more so when starting from new.

I had my 1st service at 20 months and 3500 miles

The service plans I have purchased since 2012. All were 4 services were all carried out by Breeze when I requested service normally about once a year at 15k expectations covid years when millage reduced. My current plan 5* not paid for me I expect the same intervals. The van has so many warning lights Alerts of any issues between services happen.

I bought my Ocean from Yeomans of Exeter in Jan 2024, with the 5 year service plan which was the deal VW were offering at the time. I have just had it service at Volkswagen Van Service Tewkesbury (Arthur Spriggs) as the van info stated 800 miles to service. The van has done 12800miles. I had no problem getting the service completed. The app says 12200 to next service. BTW had great service from Arthur Spriggs.

Update on my service plan issue. I have just dropped my van off for it’s first inspection at 12 months old and 11k miles. Coincidently, I had received a response from VW Complaints the day before confirming the following:

Your vehicle is serviced based on a combination of time intervals and mileage. The recommended service intervals for the VW California are generally as follows:

  • Regular maintenance, including oil changes, checks, and minor services, is recommended every 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever comes first).
  • Major services are recommended every 2 years or 24,000 miles, which includes a more thorough inspection of the vehicle’s systems and components.
That being said, while you may be refused for a major service, you can still carry out other minor services.

For reasons which are still unclear, the only conclusion I can come to is that the refusal of the first garage to carry out the service I had booked in for was due to them thinking that I was insisting on a full major service which is not due until 2 years or 24k miles. The reality was that I was booking it in for the service it was clearly due at 12 months or 12k which I accept is only a minor service.

Consequently this whole matter seems to have been a non-issue requiring no resolution other than a service centre understanding which service is required. The main reason for this update is that clarification of the service interval may be of help to others on the 5+ plan. It did, however, allow me the opportunity to look at a new VW California Ocean that had just arrived at the dealer. My conclusion was that it’s probably as good a camper as VW were able to build on the Multivan, but that the loss of bed width in particular reduces its utility for any more than a couple.

What a load of tosh! Makes you wonder why Clark’s and VW EO could not have resolved it on the day saving you all the unnecessary grief. Be interested to see what you make of Western and the experience with them. I am in exactly same position as you and have used Clark’s to replace the bellows to 06S which was great. But I too would like to get an oil change done on the 5+ in January when the van is a year old. Hope it goes well.

That’s good news for you and everyone else with a 5+ plan.
If you have used up all your services and mots after 5 years maybe you can then buy a discounted All in service plan for next 2 years, if it still exists.
That’s you sorted until 2030 !

That’s what would worry me as I intend to take the all in once my 5 year warranty is finished. If you still have an existing plan in place, they will refuse to sell you the all in. The other concern would be if you intended taking a long trip and the service would fall due during the trip. I would get mine serviced before leaving uk.
