In response to the thread saying this section is under used, I would like to recommend Shell Island. It's in North Wales, between Harlech and Barmouth.
To be honest, the shower and toilet facilities are not top notch, but it is vast and varied. It is reputed to be the largest camping area in Europe. You can camp in the woods, on grassy fields, next to the harbour, by the pub and facilities or in the middle of nowhere; and no one is allowed to camp within 20m of you (unless you are in a group by mutual agreement).
There is a pub, restaurant and cafe on site as well as a supermarket, camping shop and gift shop. However, despite this, it is not commercialised and it has a quaint, amateurish feel to it.
The sunsets are fantastic and the location is ideal for exploring the area. You are supposed to spend the night under canvas (caravans are prohibited) but this is not enforced. Ideal place for a get together.
